CLASS OF 2020 REGULAR DECISION THREAD

I think what you guys are receiving are called likely letters. My son got one from Lehigh years ago.

Here is a CC Ask the Dean article that explains it.

One poster really nailed it - Lehigh’s admissions department does take a holistic view of each and every student. Our son did not have perfect grades. He took 5 years of Spanish that wrecked his GPA. Haha. He was more committed to mastering the language than protecting his GPA. I think Lehigh respected that.

Lehigh really was the perfect fit for our son. He was surrounded by kids that were all having a blast working really hard in their classes and they had a wonderful time socially too! Lehigh was everything and more than we ever hoped.

@kikkydee Can I ask what the town around the campus is like?

ACCEPTED!!! RECEIVED MY ACCEPTANCE LETTER IN MAIL TODAY!

Go up to the featured thread called Social Life. I think the poster MrMountainHawk did a great job talking about all the stuff to do around campus. There are restaurants, bars, a grocery store, a Comfort Suites hotel. The is a fantastic shopping mall The Promenade just 15-20 minutes away. Upper class students rent houses all around the campus.

My daughter just got accepted. She is both a US and French citizen. Not sure if they consider that diverse.

My D got the 1 page likely letter and invited for the diversity weekend with paid fare.

Do any one know how much Lehigh provides Merit scholarship (not filed FAFSA) based on previous years?

Do they give full tuition or full ride or only partial scholarship like $20k? Thanks.

are the decisions that are coming out only through mail so far? or are we supposed to be looking at something on the portal?

Here is the information on the merit scholarships at Lehigh.

It would be great if everyone shared their experiences at Diversity Weekend!!! We would love to hear how it went!

Congratulations again to everyone!

Are the only people that are receiving acceptance letters the ones that are getting invited to the diversity weekend? I am waiting for regular but am not considered diverse, just wondering if anyone is getting acceptance letters that aren’t being invited to this special weekend

Accepted today! To those wondering about “diverse” I don’t think it necessarily refers to one’s race considering that I am a white male; however, I am from Texas which could be considered “diverse” to Lehigh because they do not receive that many applications from here. Good luck everyone that hasn’t heard back yet though! I was shocked when I came home from school today and opened the letter!

Son just received the acceptance letter in thin white envelope today. Very exciting. The letter mentioned the invitation to the Diversity Weekend April 8-10. He applied for engineering, financial aid and the IBE program, but those details were not addressed… He is caucasian from South Carolina, Am guessing the S. Carolina part may be the diversity aspect. They know we need to plan ahead to travel up there. Unfortunately, he has a commitment that weekend, so we are going to find out if there is another accepted student event he could attend.

Congrats to all the kids who have heard good news from Lehigh early and best wishes to the ones who will hear very soon!

Congrats to all who were accepted to Lehigh and invited to Diversity Weekend… My son received same letter around this time last year. A few days later, he received a separate letter telling him he received the Dean’s Scholarship of $12,000 which I hear is only awarded to 6% of admitted students. Lehigh isn’t generous on merit based scholarships but they try to meet need based 100% through scholarships and loans.

This is not the regular admissions notice. The regular admissions day the acceptance notices will come out through the portal. I do not think these are official letters of acceptance but they do convey to the student they are going to get accepted. Very few students get accepted through this process. No worries guys. The big day is coming!!!

I’m pretty sure it is official though. It says “Congratulations! On behalf of the Committee on Admission, I am excited to offer you a place in the Class of 2020” on the first line.

Is the diversity weekend free for only the student or his or her family as well?

Good question about whether the “Diversity Life Weekend” includes family. The letter doesn’t specifically say. It says it is an overnight program, so that implies it is not for the whole family. But, I am guessing that parents could stay in a hotel and visit the campus during the day.

To confirm, this letter is definitely an acceptance, not just a likely letter or an invitation to an event. As mentioned by another poster, the first line states: “Congratulations! On behalf of the Committee on Admission, I am excited to offer you a place in the Class of 2020.” Later in the letter it says: “Your official offer packet, including information on housing, course registration, and instruction on how to send in your enrollment deposit will be mailed at the end of March.”

But, as different poster mentioned, it also seems clear that this is not the regular admissions notice. So, if you didn’t get one of these letters, I wouldn’t worry about it. More acceptances will be coming!

It is embarrassing to be posting on College Confidential as a parent, but I have sometimes benefited from reading CC about the colleges my two boys applied to. Sometimes getting exact details and wording about things from others on this website has helped figure out the process. Sometimes the info on CC has been totally rumor and incorrect though.

I saw on line that Lehigh sends acceptance through mail regardless. Those invited to diversity weekend go them a little earlier. Anyone going? I am hoping my daughter will attend but she may want to wait for the general admitted students day.

My kid also go the “thin envelope” acceptance letter with a diversity invite. We too were surprised as diverse must mean things other than race as she is a white female from the midwest! There does not seem to be too much info on the Lehigh site about the weekend other than what to pack. Is there anyone out there that participated last year that can fill us in on how the weekend is structured? Is it mostly a social weekend, or are there academic aspects? We already did a tour last year and departmental meeting. Even though it did state travel expenses were covered, it is still a chunk of time to travel on such short notice if its mostly a free-form, social weekend. Also, there was not any info in the letter about possible merit based tuition awards and that will make a difference as to her school choice. Thanks

Any tips on the RD notification date?

RD will be released mid-late next week according to an email from lehigh
