I would think it is entirely possible that they don’t check with each other before setting their schedules… and it just happened to fall in the same spot (after all, the post-audition, pre acceptance season isn’t very long…unless of course you are waiting for results!)
Anyone out there auditioning for USC? I went on their website last night to see what the monologue requirements are and I was shocked to see that the BFA, Acting is no longer listed! It looks like they changed the major to Acting for Stage, Screen and New Media. I have no idea when that happened! Everything I printed out from their website this fall still said BFA Acting. I did go into my file and found a postcard mailing they sent that had the new major listed but they didn’t inform the applicants of the change at all! It sounds great but it would have been nice to know!
well my D officially let Elon go. They messaged her on GetAcceptd and told her they needed a decision by Jan 4 as to whether she would attend the Feb 3rd audition. We had such a hard time deciding…we visited the school in August and really loved it. The two early action fall auditions were impossible since they were on Fridays and she’s a cheerleader and our games are on Fridays. She really has her heart set on California though…NC is really not a big draw for her. Plus she has play practice Th-F-S that week and she would have to miss all three. We would have had to fly there Thursday night and go home Saturday. Plus I have a hotel room booked Saturday night in NYC because her USC audition is at 8 am on Sunday! Ugh tough one but in the end she didn’t answer them on time so she’s out. It’s such a shame they don’t go to Unifieds! They are missing out on a lot of talent IMHO.
Gosh I had a hard time scheduling seven auditions. I can’t imagine doing as many as your daughter! I have my audition for NYU next week and I was wondering—does anyone know why we have to be there four hours? It seems like the audition itself will only last a few minutes. Is there some kind of workshop/callback?
@Isaroo - did you audition for ALL studios? If so, you have the MT elements - esp dance call, that will take more time
No, I’m auditioning for acting. I imagine its just in case they’re running really late.
My daughter’s application/audition process ended earlier than expected: she was accepted to Northwestern University via early decision on December 14th. NU was her clear first choice, and she’s elated with her acceptance. Her list of schools included (1) NU (ED); (2) auditioned programs - Chapman (BFA Theatre Performance), Fordham (BA Acting), U of Minn/Guthrie (BFA Acting), NYU (BFA Acting), USC (BFA Acting), SMU (BFA Acting), and UT Austin (BFA Acting); and (3) non-auditioned programs - Barnard, Columbia, Muhlenberg and Vassar. At the time of her NU acceptance, she had been accepted academically to Minnesota (CLA, Honors program with scholarship) and UT Austin (auto-admit, but not to major). She had also auditioned for UT Austin. She was waiting until after she heard from NU to submit her apps to Barnard, Columbia, Muhlenberg, Vassar and SMU (trying to save on application fees!). She had scheduled an on-campus audition at SMU in late January, and had scheduled the other auditions for the Chicago unifieds.
I’m thrilled and excited for her. NU is a really good fit – she’s a kid who excels both academically and artistically. She has also worked her tail off in high school, and I’m happy that she gets one semester to relax a little. I’m also really grateful for all of the helpful information in this sub-forum. It was about a year ago that we started plowing through old posts; we learned a lot!
Congrats @foulandpestilent!
Congrats to your daughter, @foulandpestilent ! NU is an amazing program and she must be thrilled. (I sent you a DM.)
Congratulations, @foulandpestilent! How wonderful for your daughter to get an early acceptance from her top choice, and be able to relax and enjoy senior year with no stress! Love it!
Wow, Congrats @foulandpestilent !! The control freak in me would SO love to know where my D is going, and how much it’s gonna cost!!!
Fantastic, congratulations @foulandpestilent!
@owensfolks Congrats! I’m so happy your D got her first choice! Kinda jealous of your position though-- being done with all this already! This is our second go at the audition circuit. My D was in a BFA program in the fall and decided it wasn’t what she wanted. So, she’s not going back. Didn’t even start applications until Dec so there’s lots of rushing going on here!
Not us, @daughtersdreams -it was @foulandpestilent. We would LOVE to be done!!! 3 auditions down, lots to go. Is your D looking for a BA now? Best of luck-I PRAY we won’t be doing this again next year!
This has certainly been an interesting journey. I was surprised that after years of talking about NYU and Ithaca my D decided not to apply to either. The next 7 weekends are scheduled with auditions starting with Rider, CMU, The Hartt School, BOCO, BW, American and hopefully this week we will hear about an invite to audition at Wagner. She was also accepted into Pace and Drexel for their Arts Management programs. She’s going to college, so there is a lot of pressure off her going into the audition process. I keep my fingers crossed that the years of classes, practice, lessons pays off for her - MT is her true passion. BAL to everyone!
@foulandpestilent Congratulations! Wish we could say the same - but my D is just beginning her auditions - we got a late start because she’s transferring from another college.
@owensfolks Oops! I have a hard time following these threads! My D still wants BFA in Musical Theater, though I think she’d be OK with an Acting acceptance at this point. She sings very well, but her strongest is acting. Anyway, she left the program she was in at a small school that on paper looked really good. It seems like they offered spots to pretty much everyone who auditioned - 40 new freshman in the BFA program and it’s way understaffed. No way to actually get all the classes you’re supposed to have because they simple don’t have room. It’s a mess. So rather than waste another semester, she decided to go for some of the more well-known schools. It’s nerve wracking but we’re hoping something good comes of it. Good luck on your first (&hopefully only) audition season!
@LBSMOM my D is auditioning for American on Presidents weekend…I assume that’s when you’re going as well? They just sent An email that there’s a preview day on Monday so we decided to stay for it. My nephew absolutely fell in love with the school and was accepted there ED for Int’l Relations. I’m looking forward to visiting.
@marg928 yes! That is a crazy weekend for us! We drive to Baldwin Wallace for a Saturday audition, then leave right from there to head to DC for American (on Sunday) - we live outside of Philly. But American only offered on campus auditions on that one weekend. I can tell you we toured the campus earlier this year and it is gorgeous! My D has a friend from BDF Philly camp that goes there - we ran into her during our tour. I think D would be happy on this campus!
@marg928 - a HS friend of D’s just graduated from American - and loved. She was an international relations major and theater minor- but she got some really amazing opportunities (Singing at Kennedy center, traveling to vienna, etc)
