Class of 2021 (Discussing application season, sharing, venting)

Hey I was wondering if anyone knew when Fordham and Carnegie Mellon have released their admissions decisions in the past? I love both of these programs whole heartedly and am eager to hear back! Thank you and congrats to everyone who has been accepted somewhere so far

CMU is usually around the third week of March. I think Fordham is about the same time, but maybe someone else could confirm? (Almost all the selective BA schools decide on the same day, a friday, if I had to guess, Iā€™d say 3/24 this year.)

Iā€™m going out of my mindā€¦trying to book a trip to Cali and Seattle to visit schools during spring break but itā€™s just not working out. We have a family wedding on the first Saturday of the break which extends into Sunday. I just donā€™t see how itā€™s even logistically possible for us to do both cities in the same trip just because of Easter and all good flights home are either non-existent or already booked. Plus the fact that she hasnā€™t heard from the majority of the California schools yet so we donā€™t even know how many days we need there. I should probably just wait until she hears from the rest but Iā€™m afraid the airfares will be through the roof by then. I think I just answered my own questionā€¦I should just wait. Maybe we will at least hear from Chapman and CalArts in the next few days. :((

That stinks, @marg928. My D starts Spring Break this Saturday, and I wish we HAD a school to visit!! Could you do a long weekend in Seattle on the tail end of Spring Break, and save CA for later when you know what schools to visit?

@owensfolks She applied to a lot of schools in CA so we are going to need the most time there, hence it has to be spring break. She was already accepted to Cornish and also applied to U Washington so I guess those can be during the week trips at some other point. If things work out and she is accepted to more schools in Cali and then falls in love with one of them during our visit she will probably not even want to go to Seattle anymore. Unfortunately Cornish is having an event for accepted students on 4/14, the last Friday of the break but itā€™s just not working out with the flights home. On another note, I just called FSU and they said the letters are in the mail! I asked if they were making calls just to clarify because I had heard that on the MT board and she said it would be a letter.

Awesome, thank you for that FSU tidbit. Good luck!

Hello, just wanting to wish everyone well who is traveling to Minneapolis tomorrow for the Guthrie callbacks! Safe travels and BAL!

Following so many of the journeys on CC MT and Theatre threads and just want to say that I am hoping and praying for all of these students to find the perfect place to land in the Fall! Just as test scores donā€™t always determine the best students, I am positive that a 10-30 minute audition (after all who doesnā€™t have a bad day now and then) doesnā€™t always determine who belongs where. (not to say that it is wrong all the time) Some of these young adults take everything in stride and some will beat themselves up for months to come, but we should be so proud of the stamina and resilience they show for persevering and trying to follow their passion. I, for one, love the person my Daughter has become and a lot of that is due to the performing arts-she is a team player, an articulate young lady who can carry on a conversation with anyone, a caring person who will help out wherever she is needed, and a leader when she is called to be. We didnā€™t apply to all the big schools, and she will probably end up attending a small private university for MT. Was it her first choice? No, but she will thrive there because she will be doing what she loves. So hug your kid and tell them that all of us parents out there are rooting for their success, no matter where they end up!

@CMB625, beautifully said.

@marg928 When my oldest was looking at acting schools, we spent spring break visiting several of his acceptances across the country. At the end, he learned of his two California acceptances which ruled out every other acceptance. You may want to wait a little longer.

Anyone know when Roosevelt sends out letters? I think they said Mid-March

Theyā€™re on break next week. Usually itā€™s the week after that.

ok so based on what I just read on the MT board, if you havenā€™t received a call from FSU, the rejection letter is in the mail. Now I understand what the woman on the phone meant when she said ā€œitā€™s in the mailā€. :frowning:

:frowning: no call for us. Thanks @marg928 congrats to those who were accepted!

I know @LAM2017 Iā€™m kinda sad about it. That one was high on my list and the price was right too. :frowning:

Iā€™m new to posting on this forum since I have spent most of my time over on the MT Boards. Iā€™m glad to see some familiar names here and Iā€™m glad there is so much crossover content. My D has always viewed herself as an MT girl but she has really also focused on acting this past couple of years understanding that it is truly the basis of everything. So when it came time to start auditioning she was encouraged to apply both for MT and Acting whenever possible which is what she did, still thinking that the MT would trump everything. But she received such great feedback on her acting auditions and really started thinking that perhaps a BFA Acting program where she still had the opportunity to audition for the musicals and take voice and perhaps some dance might be the best choice. And lo and behold she is getting Acting acceptances in addition to one really great MT acceptance so far. She is going to have some really hard choices ahead and how amazingly lucky is that? Iā€™m still sort of pinching myself. Anyway Iā€™m sort of torn about where I should be posting so I guess when in doubt Iā€™ll post in both forums if thatā€™s OK!

@sopranomtmom , my daughter is in the same boat. She is a musical theatre kid, but she also loves straight shows (and Shakespeare!! :)). She only ended up auditioning for two programs (she got a same day acceptance to her top choice), but researching schools, she was looking for a program that she could be an actor, but still hone her MT skills. She ended up being accepted to a BFA Acting program where she still gets to dance every day, she gets voice, and she gets to audition for the musicals!!! Best of both worlds!

@theatremom16 My D is looking for a program like your D is in. Would love to know what school offers dance and voice to Acting majors. PM me is youā€™d rather post school name here. Thanks!

@daughtersdreams My D is going to go to Otterbein!

Dance is required every day the first year, then optional after. My daughter connected with an Acting major that is a Junior and still dances every day!
