Class of 2021 (Discussing application season, sharing, venting)

Son just got a yes to Musical Theater Point Park! Audition from Moonifieds in November. Really interested in hearing people’s opinions about this program! I know it’s a stellar ballet program!

Congratulations @phillyg007! I hear they are generous with talent money which is always a good thing! The school was on my radar when my oldest was applying to dance programs…yes it does have a great reputation for dance.

@phillyg007 My kids have friends in the program - they say it is a dance heavy program and that they are happy (quite generic, I know). You may want to pop over to the Point Park thread.

email from DePaul, S wait-listed BFA acting!!

Oh duh! There was an email from Joe Price from earlier this afternoon as well that I just noticed…she’s on the waitlist

Both terrific programs, hope there’s some movement for you.

I was also waitlisted at DePaul. I wonder how many they waitlist?

I was accepted into Point Park for Acting!!! Yay! Congrats to you guys!!! @marg928 @phillyg007

I didn’t get into Point Parks program, I really don’t think i got into any BFA’s. I’m only waiting on Roosevelt (which I felt bad about- and didn’t get asked anything), Evansville and Montclair (both of which I sent digital auditions for). This has been really rough, I’ve spent so much money on this process- just to find out I’m not good enough.

@Isaroo that is so exciting!! Where else have you heard from? I too, am curious about the wait-list, but here email implies that they usually have movement on it.

@CourtneyTheatre please don’t let no admissions shake your confidence. My daughter got none and ended up at her safety and is thriving. Leads in mainstage shows, auditioning now in NYC and really doing well. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and move on. If this is truly what you want you will thrive no matter where you go.

@CourtneyTheatre , please don’t feel you aren’t good enough! This process is so hard and these programs are really competitive. There is no way that the schools can tell everything about a performer in the very short time that they have you in front of them! There are plenty of great BA programs out there that might be the perfect fit for you! Don’t give up!

@CourtneyTheatre I completely feel you. I have yet to hear back from any of my schools and I am fearing the worst. What I can say to you is that plenty of schools have great non-audition programs and you should check out if any of them have rolling admission. Best of luck to you!

Courtney one of the most important things to learn is to learn how you learn. Our son has only been in dance and voice a little less than 2 years just about 2, but the big key was learning HOW he learns, and as some have said, if you want this and you keep studying you will have opportunities. One of Sons best friends went to University of Texas, majored in English and joined drama club and has been in some main stage plays and is very happy!! Anyway I really believe if we want it and keep working we will get where we are supposed to be!!!

@CourtneyTheatre I agree with the other posters. Don’t let this shake your confidence! This is a hard process for everyone, and a difficult career path. You never know what a specific department needs. A blonde or a brunette, a soprano or an alto. In addition, the numbers admitted are infinitesimally small. Get somewhere and and do well! Wishing you all the best. I know you will land at a college that will be a good fit for you!

Thanks everyone. I feel like I just did the process all wrong, didn’t have an audition coach (didn’t know that existed), didn’t plan for a denial from my dream school the day before unifieds. I knew to expect rejections but didn’t expect nearly this much, especially after seeing how many schools people seem to be getting into on this site and others.

So I just got the following email from Roosevelt:
“I wanted to take this opportunity to share information regarding your Roosevelt University student NetID, which provides access to your student portal. Here you can access your financial aid package, apply for housing, and pay our admission deposit.”
So I don’t know if this means my S is in the school, or if he’s in the theatre program… When I set everything up and logged in, there is no info in the portal as of yet. I wonder if this went out prematurely… Any thoughts? @Jkellynh17

@CourtneyTheatre I wish I knew you, so I could specifically point out all your talents! You need to find a good friend to talk to so they can boost you. My daughter has applied to BFA in acting programs too. All of her acting audition schools have been"no’s" to date. So please don’t lose faith or hope. You aren’t hearing from people much on these boards who are waiting as much as you are from those that have been accepted right now and have good news to share…so it’s not balanced information I promise! Focus now on what you can do. How many schools are you waiting on and do you have a safety? Do you feel up to looking at some of those late audition and non-audition schools mentioned above? Hugs!!!

@CourtneyTheatre look into Drew University! They have an amazing Theatre BA program.

Great advice @followurheart ! I agree that it is not balanced info on here so no one should lose heart! We added a school in February that my D hadn’t considered and it turns out that she loves the school and is hoping to get accepted! Sometimes it is the last minute changes that turn out to be amazing opportunities!
