@Actor01 and @marg928 I just spoke to Admissions at Cal Arts & they are still trying to get everything out by early April including acceptances for the theater BFA. Fingers crossed for @actor01 & my D. Keep the faith.
@WorkOfHeart17 My daughter was also admitted to the B.A. in Theatre Arts Performance and Practices program. From my research, it sounds like it is the best of both worlds! It looks like it is still competitive to get into, but then after 2 years they can choose which classes they would like to take. The first two it looks like they take the same classes as the BFA students. We are going to visit probably the end of March. She is very excited, this was her first “yes” for the schools she auditioned for.
@chirodoc I think we will be visiting too. Let me know what you think when you get back. Congrats to your daughter!
I originally auditioned for MT at Emerson but I was redirected to the BFA in Theatre Performance. I honestly couldn’t have seen this happening. After my audition I did a stupid thing by not sending in my financial aid info because after my audition I knew I did not want to go there for Musical Theatre. I never thought they would redirect me. So now unless they offer me some huge scholarship there is no way I can attend without financial help.
@WhiteRaven1 - ouch!!! Can you contact the financial aide office and see if there is anything that can be done? Do you like theater performance track?
@toowonderful They just closed! I will have to call tomorrow!
So hard to wait… fingers crossed for you!
So I had Emerson on my list of school in my fafsa and sent it in. Then a few weeks later made some changes and took it off my list. Would Emerson still have received my fafsa?
They should receive what was there before you changed it. That’s what I was told you have to do when applying to more than 10 schools–remove some to put others on.
@WhiteRaven1 - YES! They should have received it. That’s what people have to do when they have more than the 10 schools anyway, leave schools on for a bit, then take them off and add new ones. So if you had it on there for a few weeks, it should have been sent to them.
Ok so my Fafsa should be ok! What I didn’t submit was my CSS Profile which is Required for institutional need-based aid.
Thank you so much for the information keeping my fingers and toes crossed for your D and my S.

@CourtneyTheatre, I agree with the encouragement others have given. In addition:
My D (MT) had 2 vocal coaches her junior high and high school years. (We moved when she was in HS, but not so far away that she didn’t still occasionally see the first). Both are closely connected to two different highly regarded programs. Both told her separately from each other (one when D was just an underclassmen in HS and one when D was a junior and senior) that they had seen and known greatly talented people who fell through the cracks of college auditions and ended up with no offers, and under no circumstances should my D (or anyone else) take this process as a validation or invalidation of talent!
Looks like Roosevelt decisions are out, there’s an email sitting in my inbox.
Rejection here- felt bad about audition and no questions asked, so it was expected. Still hurts. Looks like I’m out of options. Technically I am still waiting on Montclair and Evansville. But both of those schools I sent video auditions for (special circumstance), but I am now having trouble with them receiving all my stuff, and communication (school year is very busy for them I imagine). I’m not really sure what I’m going to do. I received a BA offer from Otterbein, and have a few other schools I could pursue a BA at; as well as the BA to BFA at St. Edwards. But all of this still scares me, I really don’t want to have to do this process again. It’s been a rough year.
Do any of your BA schools only offer BA’s.?
@bisouu No, most of my BA Schools (Texas state/Otterbein) offer BFA’s that I auditioned for. My fear is being lost in a BFA ‘sea’ in pursuing a BA. Otterbein assured me this wasn’t the case in my interview, but I’m not sure about State or my others.
@CourtneyTheatre my D is in the design/tech theater program at Otterbein, and from what I can tell the BA kids are very involved with all the productions there, and take a lot of classes with the BFA students. You might want to see what it would look like for you. She loves the school.
I read on the USC thread a while back that those who are going to be accepted will get an invitation to the April 8th event. It’s not the “save the date” card, which we did receive but supposedly an actual invitation. Has anyone received that or heard of anyone who has received it?
we have a family friend who was dead set on the BFA at Minn-Guthrie, but didn’t get it senior year. Though she had a couple of BFA offers - she decided to do the BA at Minn and focus on getting herself in the program. It worked for her- she was accepted the next year. She will end up doing 5 years of college (fortunately Minn is cheap tuition wise) but it worked for her.
