@Twoboysandadog you’re right she said USD! That’s a private school, non-audition program. Campus is to die for though! My D almost applied there but then received acceptance from LMU so decided not to.
USD if that is the program then I change my suggestion LOL Their department is very very light on courses. Some are even taught through the english department. SLO is gorgeous and I have a friend who went to a Cal State school for theatre (Santa Cruz) and is now at Yale Drama full ride MFA
well I didn’t read the American letter very clearly! She was admitted to Spring 2018 LOL! It’s ok she would never have chosen it over the two LA schools…
@indygas for Theater? I wasn’t aware they had a theater program and I have never heard anyone talk about it on this forum.
Lol, finally nice weather in the bay so hot tubbing and laying out with my daughter and just saw all of your advice. Thank you!! Yes, I meant USD (where she got a big scholarship). The only UC offer she had was UCD and a waitlist for UCI. UCLA, UCSD and UCSB said no. Did not apply to UCR or UCSC or UCM. We pay such high CA taxes and it’s so hard to get in our public schools!
We’ve made a decision and it’s Pepperdine!
She has worked so hard and it’s a great fit for her and they have a well respected theatre program. Her other choices are all great schools, but this one best aligns with her interests and long term goals. Maybe she’ll run into Kanye and Kim in Malibu haha. Thanks for all of your support and I’m anxious to see where everyone ends up.
@marg928 AU is a wonderful school. We used to live in the neighborhood and both my husband and I worked for AU. (Life Regret: Not thinking ahead and remaining employed at university so my kids could get free or cheap educations!)
They have an active film department and graduation film students who are always casting for films and web series. Plus, DC is great place for both stage and film actors.
Might not be your D’s “type”, but for anyone else considering it – it’s a fine program!
Any thoughts on Point Park? We never see much about them on here. MT specifically.
Hi everyone! It feels like a while since I’ve posted. Sadly I’ve hit another snag along the road. I am trying to commit to Shenandoah for Acting but I just received my Financial Aid and it is nowhere near the amount that would make it possible for me to attend. It just sucks because I feel it is such a good fit. But right now I am trying not to give up so easily. I think I’ll email the head of the program on Monday and tell him about my situation. Is this a good idea? I have already been applying for local scholarships all around my community, but it is too early to hear back from any of them yet. This whole process just feels like an uphill battle sometimes. 8-|
Anyone else accepted to the Juilliard Group 50? Just found out the other day of my acceptance! I’m ecstatic
Congratulations @theatrestudentxo ! I’m not aware of a Julliard acceptance in this group but I could be wrong. Could you tell us a little about your journey?
Congrats @theatrestudentxo you should be estactic! There was another poster who went to callback weekend. Not sure of his final results. Maybe he will post again.
@WhiteRaven1 yes-email the head of theater and tell him of your situation and that the program is your #1 choice. Asking can’t hurt. If You got a larger award elsewhere you can also send it to financial aid office and see if they will match it.
Best of luck!
I would definitely contact the school. Good luck @WhiteRaven1!
@WhiteRaven1 I contacted Loyola Marymount yesterday and asked them to consider my D for a merit scholarship so yes you should!
@portalupdateplz Congrats on your D’s choice of Pepperdine. It is such an amazing school. I all but begged my D to apply but she was so determined to go outside of CA. It seems like a wonderful theatre program and I know one of the VP instructors and they have a great music program as well. How could anyone not thrive and be happy on that beautiful campus.Lucky girl! I can’t wait until we can make a final decision!
@portalupdateplz congrats on the decision! I’m regretting taking Pepperdine off the list…I never thought my D would get accepted to only two schools out of eight in Cali…we had way too many reaches apparently!
@sopranomtmom Thanks so much. Wishing you the very best for your final decision. Keep us posted!
@marg928 I feel the same. And the rejections at the reaches were way harder on my daughter than I thought they would be. Luckily the two Cali choices for your D are excellent! Good luck to you and let us know your final decision.
@WhiteRaven1 If you have gotten more merit from other schools, use those offers to negotiate with Shenandoah! Best of luck to you. When there is a will, there is a way!!
@marg928 I have been on the American thread and it seems that a lot of students have received the Spring Admit. Some are saying it is their wait list, but I am here to tell you that my daughter got a true wait list. 1550 SAT, 4.7 gap. So go figure! Nothing mentioned about MT audition.
@BandMom55 she didn’t get the audition feedback page?
I have to say I’m really bummed. My D did not get into USC, BFA or BA. I’m probably more upset because they’ve never (as far as I know) taken anyone from our high school and this year three applied. Well…bad choice USC! They chose the one with the highest test scores and grades (valedictorian as well) but she only applied to see if she would get in. The other two kids visited the school and were seriously considering it. This is the end of the road for us…out of eight schools in CA only two admits and two waitlists. I know I should be happy but I can’t help but feel disappointed
