Sitting here catching up on merit offers after a fantastic visit at Pitt–and it occurred to me that even the $15K/year offers put Pitt tuition at a level that is cheaper than their IN state tuition level for students who get no merit aid. I realize it seems the merit aid is different this year, but I wanted to point that out.
Is it true that getting merit aid is tougher for in state students? I applied for business if that makes a difference.
I don’t know if it is necessarily harder to get merit for instate students. Smaller amounts seem to be more common though than full tuition.
At least among CC posters.
But again this seems to be the case so far with OOS (engineering) students as well.
@flashk Was there a question for those 2? And, I think you may have meant just ‘Dolemite’?
Today DD received a letter announcing she has been awarded a Full Tuition Scholarship and invite to apply for Chancellor’s! We are ecstatic!
OOS, Ohio, 35 ACT, 1470 SAT, Rank 1/405, 4.395 Weighted GPA, DSAS, Honors, GAP for Communication Science and Disorders . Applied July 20th, accepted September 16th, I think. This degree requires two years of graduate school in Speech Language Pathology so we are tremendously grateful for this 4 year scholarship!
We too are now wondering if the scholarships are rolling out in order of scores and crossing our fingers for DD’s best friend who has also applied to Pitt and is a stellar student and amazing young lady!
Best of luck and a speedy US Postal Service to all!
Congratulations @flashk! That’s awesome for your D! I am not wasting brainpower trying to figure it out. We are still waiting patiently. Worrying about it is not going to change the amount…
Is it? =))
Received official notice today for D!
$15,000 per year + Chancellors invite

ACT: 34C

Reflections: Merit from Pitt has definitely changed for this year. We are super grateful for this amount; it is her #1 choice.
Sorry, posted on some scholarship before realizing this was Pitt only.
Just received letter in the mail today. $20k + Chancellor’s
OOS
Swanson Bioengineering
Act: 36
UW GPA: 4.00, School doesn’t rank.
Taken highest math and science courses possible
A little bummed that I didn’t get the full tuition (would’ve made it a lot cheaper) but I’m extremely grateful for what I got. It seems like a really hard year scholarship-wise.
@picuberoot I’m in the same situation as you, in that I’m out of state with a 36, perfect GPA, and I am pursuing bioengineering. I also got $20k + chancellor’s invite. I haven’t seen any OOS engineering students with full tuition, so I wouldn’t be too disappointed. The only students I have seen with full tuition have been in the arts college.
Just received letter yesterday.
15K merit, OOS Engineering, Ranked 1/350+, ACT 34
Also grateful, but it will be a big decision in March between Pitt and UMD when we find out in-state UMD merit aid. Much thanks to @carachel2 for all the support along the way.
I got my letter yesterday. $15k, OOS, 34 ACT, 4.0 UW(4.57 W). Congrats everyone!

@Stevecof2017 …Congrats!!! For in-state that’s more than half tuition!!!
I received 20K per yr (80K total scholarship), but I don’t see Chancellor’s nomination anywhere. And does that mean that I didn’t receive a full tuition scholarship?
omg feels good to be able to comment on my own thread haha. just got $5k/year for Swanson (EE)
stats:
3.9 gpa / 35 ACT (school doesn’t rank)
@engineur congrats!! Are you in-state? Chancellors?
@ILDocter – Congrats!!
I believe Chancellors invite comes in the same letter.
