I’m starting to think perhaps my son is not getting an award. He was accepted in early September. Haven’t heard anything. Lots of other 35 ACT scorers above have received awards…although not full tuition. Even though my sons stats are great, maybe his short question answers didn’t stand out. He followed the rules and kept the answers short. Did those of you who received awards do the same or did you write longer essays? Did you send resumes?
@perch1024 - worth a phone call to make sure it was not lost in transit.
@perch1024 - We didn’t send resume and stuck to the limits. We were hoping for full-tuition given the credentials but didn’t get it. Not sure what the criteria this year is.
@perch1024, it seems that these recent merit notifications were from the Friday before Thanksgiving meeting of the committee. Then the committee will probably meet this Friday again and more will be sent out next week.
Your son may also be one to be reviewed several times. While it is hard to wait, it is still only November, and only a few weeks’ worth of scholarship decisions have been made so far.
Also while the minimum criteria are published to be considered for scholarships, there is no guarantee that a student meeting all of them will get a scholarship. Otherwise they would be issued automatically and there would be no need for a committee to review qualified applicants.
@perch1024 - our DD has a 36 ACT, decent W GPA, good essays (stayed within word limits), unique ECs and is a national merit semifinalist. She didn’t get a scholarship offer when the rest of the 36 ACT students got it, but we continued to have hope. we did hear back this week and are grateful for what is offered, seeing how the offers seem to be lower than last year across the board. I’d hold on to hope and wait to hear back.
@perch1024 My DD also has 36 ACT and top GPA of her high school class. She was accepted in September and was invited to apply for GAP program; but she still has not heard from school about scholarship. I called admission office yesterday and was told the offer letter is on the way. So I guess we all need patience.
@hailtopitt1787 ?
DD is working on the three additional essays required for the Chancellor’s Scholarship. Do you know, or can you determine, if the committee has access to her short answers that were turned in with the application? One of her short answer questions discusses something she would not want to leave out of her application. One of the essay prompts for Chancellor’s would give her the opportunity to mention it again. She does not want to duplicate an essay if they already have that access. Because they are asking for a new transcript and new copies of any letters of recommendation, this made me wonder if they don’t have previous essays.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
@flashk, The Selection Committee does have access to the admissions file, and may look at it as a supplement, but they are much more likely to refer to the materials they specifically requested. Your daughter should be totally safe repeating her response to ensure that they see the information she wants to share with them.

OOS Full Tuition for 4 years. 36 ACT / 2310 SAT 4.0 UW GPA School does not Rank
From School of Sciences. Good Luck to all those who are still waiting. Looks like they are doing in batches.
My son just got his notification of acceptance today. Yeah!!! Now the wait for potential merit. One question I have is is if he has met the minimum SAT qualification. With the new SAT he got a 1480 (10 below the posted minimum number) but with the old SAT he got a 2130 with a 1500 for reading and math(how they judged last year). Any idea if he should get a merit scholarship?
@Robincorn, The SAT Score Converter should be useful for you: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/scores/understanding-scores/sat-score-converter
You can also find information on past scholarship eligible students here: https://oafa.pitt.edu/financialaid/academic-scholarships/ Note: The score on this page is from the new SAT.
