Since the scholarship deadline is approaching, I thought I would start a thread for any and all WashU merit scholarships. We hear back about the scholarships before admission, too. I applied to Langsdorf and McKelvey (SEAS) and Danforth. What is everyone else applying for?
Is each scholarship application essay considered independently/by a different admissions officer? I was thinking about writing the same activity/leadership/experiences for some essays but I don’t want overlapping content to be an issue.
@namuas98 Since I am an applying senior as well, I don’t know the answer for sure. However, I remember that the admissions counselor who interviewed me said she was on the committee for Ervin and Rodriguez, but only those two. I don’t think it would be a problem to write about the same thing more than once, as long as it answers the question. I know this isn’t exactly the same as your question, but this was one their scholarship FAQ page:
"Can I use the same essay for the scholarship application as my admissions application?
Yes. If the topic is relevant, you may choose to submit an additional copy of the same essay."
Hey guys! I’m applying for the Arts and Sciences Humanities scholarship and the Nemerov writing scholarship (if I have time to perfect my short stories/ poems).
Applying for Langsdorf! Hopefully I get it–however, I have championships for one of my extracurriculars during the scholarship weekend, so if I do get a scholarship, I’ll have to figure out a way around that.
@Testingearly what’s the scholarship weekend? On an unrelated note, is anyone applying to Mylonas or Nemerov? And does anyone know the percentage of people who apply to the scholarships who actually get them?
@ap012199 - Scholarship weekend is when applicants that applied for a scholarship who are chosen as finalist are invited to go to WashU to interview for the scholarship.
I applied to five scholarships. I have a 4.5 weighted gpa and 31 act but since they superstore which I learned yesterday I sent in my scores (32 E, 35 M, 34 S, 28 R)
EC pretty good, leadership probably not as good as can be, however heavy AP and ACC course load and I’ve only gotten one B first semester junior year in AP Physics.
Biomedical engineering is my major and I did have a campus tour at WashU.
Do I have good chances? I’ve gotten into a lot of schools already, the most notable- U of I for bioengineering (which is very selective).
Thanks

@ambery2017 TBH, it will be tough for you to get admitted. 25th percentile for ACT is 32, meaning that 3 out of every 4 applicants have at least a 32 on the ACT. Your GPA is a bit low too. However, if you’re essays are great, they could help. Good luck!
