@socalnurse thanks for posting and helping future applicants. And congratulations on your stellar record and for having so many wonderful opportunities ahead.
@Banker1 thank you so much! I really appreciate it!! Hoping it helps future seniors out as much as this site helped me in previous years!! (:
@futurenurse77 hi there! I was also accepted to BC’s nursing program! I’m totally feeling the same way about financial aid. I’m really excited though
It really seems like an amazing place. Just hope the money is there!
@hemingways hello! Congratulations to your acceptance I really like BC but I just feel that their aid won’t be enough and it might be a little too far for a California girl like me. I’m most likely committing to USF nursing! Where are you leaning towards?
@futurenurse77 no way I am from CA as well and I was also accepted to USF. Crazy coincidence lol!
@futurenurse77 I really like BC but I’ve got a couple other places I’m juggling as well. Just hope the money works out!
Anybody know any information on SUNY Plattsburgh’s Nursing??
I think this will be the final update on D’s selection process. March yielded some important info as D toured SDSU, U of Cinc, Xavier, OSU, Belmont and UTK. Changes from last time - acceptance into SDSU Nursing, OSU Honors, APU Nursing, WL from BC, Denial from TCU, and remote interview with X for their full-tuition scholarship (500 admitted students separately applied, 50 selected for interviews with most of these onsite for group activities, up to 10 will receive.)
Recap: D (San Diego CA) has applied for Nursing at 17 schools.
Status:
SDSU admitted for Nursing to go along with full-tuition scholarship and acceptance to Weber Honors; visited 3/17 open house and received much info about the Nursing program at nursing tent but facility was closed. Rises toward top but D thinking OOS may provide the best growth opportunities. Will try to schedule a tour of Nursing labs.
U of Cincinnati direct entry nursing and Honors; $8500/yr March visit impressed D the most. Her other finalist.
That’s it. Every other school she is fairly confident she has eliminated. Good luck everyone!
Xavier direct entry Nursing, $19.7k/yr incl books. Notified she didn’t receive full tuition scholarship but thankful for the interview experience. Received an extra $1k/yr renewable Muskie grant for participating.
Ohio State – Accepted pre-Nursing, $15k/yr; accepted to Honors; Mar visit confirms no direct entry even for Honors; this campus is too big for D and has been eliminated. FYI 40% acceptance rate for those later applying to Nursing
UT Knoxville for direct entry Nursing, $15k/yr - March visit reveals beautiful campus. Nursing presentation shows this is not really a direct entry program (no nursing activities in first 2 years, those years need 3.2 GPA to start nursing)
Belmont accepted to Nursing and Honors, $10k/yr; Did not receive the Faculty scholarship which at extra $15k/yr would have gone a long way toward generating interest here. March visit was brief and no change in interest.
Gonzaga - direct entry nursing $19k/yr, Visited mid-Feb; good program but too small
Seattle U, direct entry nursing $24k/yr - Visited mid-Feb; No; doesn’t like Quarters; low school spirit
U of Portland, direct entry nursing $21k/yr – Visited mid-Feb; small but nice; this is a maybe
U San Francisco - direct entry nursing and Honors $25k/yr, Visited and deemed too expensive and no study abroad opportunity (missed deadline to apply for supplemental $20k total scholarship)
Azusa Pacific accepted into Nursing, $19k/yr - 4 year program, solid but wondering about student life. May visit.
Marquette for direct entry Nursing, $14k – too expensive; received letter stating she is runner-up on extra scholarship
Winona State for pre-Nursing (easier to later be accepted to program) in-state tuition plus $3.5k (total value about $9.5k/yr) - Cheapest however D no longer interested.
CSULB – accepted pre-Nursing; strong program and great value but without direct entry nursing this is too risky vs acceptances
CSUCI – accepted pre-Nursing; safety school no longer needed
Deferred to RD:
Boston College - too expensive and D no longer interested; Update: received WL decision
TCU - even with $21k/yr merit this is too expensive vs acceptances; Update: D denied admission anyway
Thank you for taking the time for all the updates Banker1! Would love to hear her final decision if you care to share when it is made.
This thread is both inspiring and daunting, appreciate everyone who posts info and updates. D is class of 2023, almost time to start the process…
Would love to hear everyone’s final decisions. I think it would be a great resource for those going through the application process next year
@Banker1 thank you for the update. SDSU is a great deal with full tuition scholarship and being in the city you live in. Appreciate all the updates on the college visits.
Accepted to UCI nursing and CSULB pre nursing. I’m having a tough time choosing between these two.
@itit218 Congrats on the acceptances. Would you care to share reasons for considering a pre-Nursing program over a direct entry program? Especially with the later acceptance rate into the Nursing program at CSULB around 15% why risk that when you have already earned direct entry at UCI?
I will be a commuter going to college. I would like to dorm at UCI, however I’m receiving no financial aid. My parents will be paying for my tuition out of pocket. My mom does not want me to dorm because of the extra cost. The commute to Irvine would be around 45 minutes. The comite to Long Beach is only 15 minutes. I would much rather go to Irvine. I’m just wondering if I can handle the drive. It is also disappointing that I might not be as involved in UCI’s clubs and activities because of being a commuter. Any input? @Banker1
@itit218 with the additional information I can follow your thinking now. If the budget is there then UCI even with additional 1 hour driving (30 min extra each way) is probably the way I would lean. Any additional delay in achieving nursing admission at CSULB would increase cost. I’m wondering if you could leave home early to start your day. And return home late. And during the day try to take as much in as possible to leverage the club experiences you mention. It’s possible as you be-friend those on campus you would find spots on campus to study and re-charge. Consult with someone regarding clinical locations and rotation start times to make sure it’s doable. Good luck!
@Banker1 Thank you, I know it can be done with a little extra effort to attend!
@nursingman Did you do the tour of the nursing schools? One of the schools you mention has a very gloomy old nursing building. I wouldn’t actually want my daughter spending four years there.
julia35002 We visited SUNY Plattsburgh as we only live 2 hours away. The nursing program is direct entry and has a good reputation. The nursing building is older and not super-modern high tech like some other schools but still seemed to have everything necessary for the coursework. The campus is pleasant and in a good location if you like outdoors activities (skiing, hiking, canoeing, etc)
Thank you Charliesch. We felt the same about the Moravian Campus and Bethlehem in general. A pleasant place to live. We have to choose between Quinnapiac and Moravian. Son is leaning toward Moravian. They start nursing classes as sophomores and everything seems more warm and welcoming. He has a learning disability and is very nervous about college. Moravian seems like they have a stronger support system for students. We like the place a lot and seems to have an excellent nursing program. I’m not sure why it doesn’t get more love on this board.
