Class of 2022 (the journey); sharing, venting, discussing

@jenniferm1973 I don’t know if they do. They have in the past from what I have heard though.

We were at Otterbein this past weekend. The drive through the snow storm was a challenge. However, the staff and students at Otterbein were incredibly supportive and nice. The dance call was first and what my daughter expected. Then they were split off into two audition groups. She went in the morning session. You performed your songs and monologue in front of the staff and other kids. Then in the afternoon you were called individually, where they had you sing more songs or do monologues. She was done by 3:15. It was a very positive experience. Now off to NYC unifieds tomorrow for 9 auditions. BAL everyone

I’m trying to find the best MT thread / forum to post- sorry to double post this same question… anyone have any info or firsthand experience with CNU (Christopher Newport)? My D’s “safety”. She was academically accepted today so I’m happy it’s an option on the table! (Non audition). Trying to find out more about the MT program there. We are attending an on campus scholarship audition in a couple weeks but I’m curious if anyone has input about this school. Thank you!

BAL to all auditioning at NY Unifieds. We are heading to UM for an on campus audition on Friday.

BAL to all auditioning this weekend! It is our last weekend off until March. Going to try to enjoy the break.

Same to you all, @mommafaria & @belleforbroadway ! Wow-last weekend off 'til March?!? Keep that kid healthy!

Hi all! Long time follower, with not too many posts. I find this all helpful, but the threads overwhelm me (so many conversations happening in one thread). Of course, the content is overwhelming too (that goes without saying, lol).

Anyway, we just had a three day stint of local auditions in NYC: Pace, NYU Tisch and Juilliard (just for fun, since my dd is an acting student at her HS. Note: it wasn’t fun!!!). If anyone has any questions, I’m all ears! Most of her auditions will be MT, she has only one other acting audition (SUNY Purchase).

Question for anyone that has done U Michigan on campus: roughly how long is the session? I’m wondering, because of transportation home. We’re flying in the night before, and since she doesn’t have a call time yet, I’m trying to figure out if we can fly home that night. And how soon before the date did you get your child’s call time? Mine will be auditioning Feb 9th.

@DramaQueen219 my S auditioned at Michigan last weekend. They sent S his call times about a week before. He had late morning acting/singing and afternoon dance. Went out Thursday and came back Saturday morning. The day for him ran until 445 and they were running a little late. I know some kids went later than him. Ann Arbor is about 40 minutes from airport. If you fly back Friday, I suggest you book a late flight Friday or wait until Saturday morning.

That’s what I figured. I feel like unless we get a ‘red-eye’ out that night, we’re better off waiting until the morning. My child is paranoid about missing her rehearsal the next day (for the school musical). Gotta love the dedication, but seriously, if she wants to get into a college, her teacher knows the seniors are gonna miss rehearsals. Luckily, our airport is about 10 minutes from her school (if we fly back early the next morning).

@DramaQueen219 Would you mind sharing any info about the not fun Juilliard audition? My S is auditioning there this weekend and want to be mentally prepared.

@Naevia
My S Auditioned Juilliard this Sunday. He had a great experience. We got there at 9am. They warm them up and have them do some exercises. There were 258 actors auditioning that day. They have several rooms going My son did his first monologie then when he started his second they stopped him immediately and told him to grab a chair and do it completely different. They asked him a few general question (how old are you, senior year? ). After then he was done. It was 10:30am. The callback list was originally going to be posted at 2 but they told them it would be closer to 3. To stay in the area. It came just after 3pm. My s did get a callback. He said it was an incredible experience. You work a lot with the faculty and then he was interviewed. He said everyone was wonderful! He loved every minute of it. He met some wonderful people. They started at 3:30 and he finished at 10pm.

@myboy2000 - congrats on the callback!! How many did they keep?

Thank you so much! It was a dream come true for my s! They called back about 32 and interviewed about 10-12.
Keep in mind that the BFA and MFA are combined for auditions and callbacks. I don’t know the breakout of that.

Thanks! Will sure try. BAL to you too!

@myboy2000 congrats on the callback! We were there too, but didn’t get the same e-mail :frowning: She had four other friends there that day, who all had very different audition experiences, and none of them got called back either.

@Naevia Well, she didn’t get a callback, so that was a bummer. And it just took forever, and there were a lot of people/kids (some adults too). She said she couldn’t get a read on the guy at all. No redirect, didn’t even get to sing, no questions, etc. One of her friends (that she met that day) had a similar experience, but the person complimented her on her dress, but was asked to do something different on on monologue. Her three other classmates were asked to sing, and got redirects. One of her friends didn’t even have a song at all, and they suggested Happy Birthday, then asked him to sing it as if he was singing it to a little kid. I think each of them auditioned for different people too.

This was her first, and she wasn’t expecting much, but she was still slightly bummed. At least we know we stand though. Her next two (Pace and NYU) went better, in her opinion. She got to sing, and felt good about how she did. Much more organized too, a lot less kids, less cattle call like.

@DramaQueen219 Thank you! It was the biggest surprise! NEVER EVER expected it!
I’m happy your D had a good experience at NYU and Pace. My s auditioned Pace last Friday and had a great experience there as well. He loved the faculty! BAL with all your auditions!!!

Congrats @myboy2000 on the callback. That is amazing. 32 is more than Juilliard normally calls back (historically anyway - could be doing it different this year). For others’ frame of reference, I think it is normally between 10-20 Juilliard calls back while on campus and less if in San Fran or Chicago. A friend called back 2 years ago in San Fran said only 5 or 6 kids were called back that day and we had heard the same from others in San Fran on another day. The day my daughter auditioned on campus in NYC there were supposedly around 15 called back and then less the next day (when we knew 3 others auditioning). Just in case anyone else is interested.

Again, a huge compliment @myboy2000. He should feel pretty good! Guessing he got a callback at Pace too (if he went for BFA acting!).

@DramaQueen219 Thanks for sharing your D and friends’ experiences. Very helpful. Even though my S knows how incredibly tough the odds are at Juilliard, it will be hard not to be a little disappointed.

@bfahopeful Thank you so much!!! It’s so exciting and shocking!!! I think we still can’t believe it!!

Thank you for sharing those numbers. Since we haven’t been through it we have no reference. They email you in February to let you know if you make callback weekend. 40-50 are selected. From there they choose 8-10 BFA and 8-10 MFA.
My s is doing 5 MT and 3 Acting auditions. Pace he did MT!
