I am starting this thread for people who are applying or interested in CSB honors program. My D applied to CSB honors program. She is an auto admit. Waiting to hear from either CS or Business schools.
Which school did she apply to as her top choice? Natural Science or McCombs? This sounds like a great opportunity. It’s too bad they’re keeping it so small.
@srparent15 she applied to CNS, so CSB and Touring are her honors options. We were kind of bummed on not being able to apply to BHP. But the way CSB is structured is, one can only apply to Touring or BHS as 2nd honors.
I agree. It would be nice if they can pick a first and second choice major and then do the honors for each that way. She sounds like she would be a good fit for Turing based on her background, but I know that program is very small and supposedly the CSB program is going to be even smaller.
Bumping this thread up to see if there are other kids applying to CSB and can contribute to this thread.
My son submitted his application before Nov 1. Has anyone applying CSB received interview email or call?
Nope, we were told to not expect anything until February at the earliest! Haven’t even heard about regular admittance yet, which is what we expect to hear from first.
I applied for CSB a few months ago. Just received an interview for the BHP program. I’m not sure if it increases chances of getting in CSB.
@csunknown great news! best luck on your interview. When did you submit your application? and what is your first choice: cs or business?
I think it has to be business if the interview is BHP
My first choice was computer science and second choice was unspecified business. Honors application was submitted about a month and a half ago.
My son had the BHP interview last week. His first choice was unspecified business and second choice was CS. Sent honors application in mid October.
Thanks for information. How many will CSB students be accepted for class 2023?
I think we heard about 40 will be accepted, or that they want a class of 40 for the first year. I can’t remember which but it was a very small amount.
Today, some kids got their first choice admissions. Haven’t heard about anybody got their second choice offered. No honor offers either. I am trying to understand the procedure for CSB admission. Is Texas Honors CSB itself an honor program, aside from honor for Business and Turing for CS?
@misbic yes, for example my daughter just got into McCombs today. She also applied to BHP and to CSB. On the portal under Honors it says separately that each are still under review. Her first choice is CSB. If she doesn’t get into that then her next is BHP.
There are certain math and CS requirements an applicant must have to be considered for CSB which are different than BHP so perhaps that will eliminate many who don’t realize that off the bat, or maybe there will be a huge number of qualified applicants.
My kid did not allow me to interfere so I don’t know, not even saw what the portal look like. Can kids apply to both Business School and CSB as two applications? Or CSB itself includes Business alone or CS alone, if CSB is not offered.
Is my understanding correct?
1st, UT reviews first choice and decide if they will give you the offer.
2nd, for kids who are offered first choice, their second choice are reviewed and offer decided. If kids don’t get second offer, they have first choice with consideration for honor.
3rd, for kids do get second offer, they are considered for CSB honor, if not granted, they go back to their first choice with consideration for honor.
Do you mean your daughter apply to CSB with Business as first choice? Did she also apply to Business and honor separately?
First she had to apply to a first choice major, and I don’t know if a second major is required or not and can’t remember if she chose a second one and then submitted the application by the priority date. Once that was done, on the application it asks if you’re interested in Honors programs. So then, it shows you the different honors programs and you click which ones you’re interested in. For McCombs it shows BHP and CSB and there are some extra requirements. If you picked Computer Science, there are a whole bunch of Honors programs - Turing, Natural Sciences, CSB and some others.
If I remember correctly, the CSB essay is the same as BHP, however, they obviously also want to know your Computer Science background, not just Business, something like that if I recall.
For CSB you go right into Differential Equations and I think Data Structures might be the CS course they start you in. If it’s not that it’s a higher one.
