With World Scholars, do they still start abroad, or is that modified due to Covid?
My son would study abroad in Greece Spring semester. I believe it was previously Fall?
Thanks! I think my daughter picked/was assigned to Spain? We have not visited yet, but looks great online.
We live in DE, so we have spent quite a bit of time in Newark and on campus. Itâs a great town and the campus is very nice.
University of Delaware is often listed as a top party school by the Princeton Review. Is it hard for a non-partying (but fun student to find like-minded peers?
My daughter is a freshman in the honors college. There is a ton of partying going on both on and off campus. However, my daughter (a non-partyer) has made many like minded friends! They play games, theyâve gone roller skating and ice skating, theyâve done crafts and just hang out. She was very worried about the party reputation but it did not take her long to make friends (maybe only a week or two). Your student will definitely find their friend group!
Does anyone have any adivce for filing a merit appeal? I got into the Honors College and boosted my GPA by .1, went up in class rank, and have some new extracurriculars but Iâm not sure what is key to mention in the spot given to write.
Hi. The best thing you can do is tell them about another higher offer that you have received from a comparable school and let them know what that offer is. We had success with that.
I submitted a financial repeal a while ago and UD keeps adding random amounts of money to my scholarship without even emailing me to tell me they did this. is this happening to anyone else too? Also, does anyone know if UD offers work study, and how can I apply for one?
to apply to world scholars do you need an interview or just an essay?
Just an interview - no essay.
I still donât get what it is⊠they keep emailing me and it just sounds like an extended study abroad.
OMG just checked my daughters portal! There is another scholarship listed now.
From the acceptance letter - âThe Institute for Global Studies is the home of the World Scholars Program. We founded the nationâs first study abroad program in 1923 and we continue to lead in ways that matter. You may find other âfreshman abroadâ programs but you will not find a four-year program such as ours. As a World Scholar, you will immerse yourself in the only undergraduate experience that includes two study abroad experiences, an international living and learning community, a senior year symposium and other incredible opportunities to explore the world and your place in it.
Our support for your intellectual (and geographic) journey begins immediately. This summer and fall, we will officially welcome you to our community, guide you through the visa process, and explore the culture of your spring destination. A member of my team will accompany you to your freshman site and will remain with you for the first two weeks of the semester. Our partner institutionsâJohn Cabot University in Rome, Italy; St. Louis University in Madrid, Spain; the University of Auckland in New Zealand; and the American College of Greece in Athensâwill provide the resources and support that you will need to launch a successful start to your undergraduate career. At semesterâs end, we will return to celebrate your accomplishments and accompany you home.â
when is the deadline to submit a merit appealâŠI wanted to wait until I hear back from my RD schools so that I could include the amount of scholarships I receive from them as well.
@cgemaj did you appeal or did it just randomly appear?
Nope didnât appeal. Just happen to check her portal and saw it.
I just checked too and I got a new scholarship as well! It added 20% to my financial aid. Itâs called the University of Delaware Grant.
My daughter was accepted on Friday. No mention of merit. Does that come later or are we not getting anything?
My sons merit was in his acceptance letter
