It’s just frustrating when your kid sees others get in who have similar or even lower stats.
has anyone that applied EA that’s from VA gotten their decision?
100% this
Are you talking about the SRAR? Even though you filled out your courses and grades already If you did the Common App, you have to retype all the grades and classes into the Penn State SRAR. It’s time consuming, but they won’t process your application if you don’t do that part.
ahh okay i did it after I saw the email but does that mean im moved to reg decision bc their website said the SRAR had to be submitted sometime in November to be considered for ea i just honestly didn’t see it when i first got my portal
I’m not sure. The good news is you know to do now so it can start processing for Monday. You could email them after you submit and ask if you are bumped to finding out later. Hopefully not. But even if you have to wait longer for an answer, getting an acceptance a month from now is the same as getting it now. A yes is a yes whenever you get it. My application still says being reviewed so I am waiting too. Good luck!
thanks u too!
I have heard quite a few people say that they have been accepted into a branch location vs UP. I have a few friends in my town that said the same. Do you think they may have sent out those responses already? And those remaining that applied EA are either accepted or declined to UP without a deferral to a branch? Or does that sound like a crazy assumption? Thank you!
Penn State actually doesn’t outright deny many people - A “denial” is usually an acceptance to a commonwealth campus. Only if your stats are super low would someone be denied outright. Many of the commonwealth campuses are pretty much open admission (not all, but some; excluding Behrend, Altoona, and Harrisburg from that list).
The decisions usually take this path:
Accepted to UP campus for Fall
OR
If not able to be accepted for fall, acceptance for Summer (if checked)
OR
If not able to be accepted for summer at UP, placed at second choice campus.
PSU doesn’t do alternate majors so if you are given a commonwealth campus and you really want UP, you can always ask for reconsideration to a different major, adding in summer or such. But that only works some of the time.
The decisions are random. I know it’s so hard for people to accept and it’s even more difficult to wait when you see people with similar or worse stats than you getting accepted. People tend to overthink it. Honestly, it’s random. The apps go into many different buckets and they don’t go in the same time or come out the same time. So you not hearing yet means nothing. Not good, and not bad. Can you still be accepted to UP for fall? Absolutely! Can you still be placed at a commonwealth campus? Absolutely also.
My daughter applied the very first day applications were open in August and she’s still waiting - long after many people have heard who applied in November. It’s just the nature of this brutal beast waiting for decisions.
Question about second choice/alternate campus. The application “forced” you to pick one. There was option to say no 2nd location is acceptable? Am I right about that? University Park is only campus that daughter wants as #1 and only choice. But it forced us to also pick a #2 campus?
Did we do it wrong?
My daughter also had to pick an alternate campus. Her major is only offered at UP. She asked her college rep about that and was told she would only be considered for UP. She got accepted yesterday, but we randomly picked somewhere because she had to, but it was not a factor for her (if that makes sense).
Hi,
I got into 2+2 at Abington for engineering. I was wondering if you recommend, Harrisburg, Altoona, or Abington for engineering 2+2?
Thanks
( @jlhpsu )
@Noahscott13 I had the same question. Check out this post from @jlhpsu from a few days ago. Great info!
We did the same thing and picked a random campus for second choice. If it’s not UP, my DD won’t attend.
what major is that, which is only at UP?
you did it right, don’t worry.
If she will only consider UP and she gets branch campus, she can ask to be reconsidered for summer (if you can afford it) and a different (less competitive)major. If you post the major she applied for, we can suggest less competitive majors just in case. And if that doesn’t work, she has to treat it as a rejection.
I’d pick Behrend/erie first, then Altoona, then Harrisburg.
Oh ok thanks. Behrend is too far for me. I heard Harrisburg’s campus is out in the middle of no where. Do you know anything about Harrisburg or Altoona?
PSU Harrisburg Campus I am not sure about academics and professors how good it is, I know its more of a STEM school, depends on major you are looking for.
About Harrisburg is a nice small town close to many attractions like Hershey park etc, we been many times to the town and area seems really nice .
For people who have been admitted, did you receive a financial aid package with your acceptance?
