I’m not trying to be unkind. This is my third kid to go to penn state and each one waited over four months for a decision. (One waited 3 days shy of 5 months!). I know exactly how frustrating the wait is. I wish psu did it differently but i don’t think it’s possible for reasons I’ve explained before.
And it’s very true that Penn State is a huge institution. The admission process is pretty much indicative on how things are at big schools. I was simply trying to point this out so people can decide for themselves whether a school like psu is for them…or not.
Not my intention at all to be unkind. I Feel everyone’s pain. My D applied 9/22…it was a long wait and Penn State is where she is most likely to attend, I know it’s brutal.
Ask for reconsideration - DUS (all students take the same “entrance to major” classes anyway, there are no “pre admits”) + Summer if you can afford to.
Going to Berks from TX really isn’t advisable nor good value.
(Whereas Altoona, Harrisburg, or Erie aren’t, Berks really is like a community college even if there’s a guarantee you’ll end up at UP later).
Summer is great and no student I know of has ever regretted it (“best decision I ever made” is the most common comment) but it’s pricey.
Unfortunately this year most colleges doing same , Even Rutgers which used to do 1 day all EA rolling out in random batches
Guess 2020 is so we have to deal with cool mind
I was not implying that if you are frustrated you wouldn’t fit in at Penn State. Some people are very happy in a big school environment with all that entails…even if some of the processes are frustrating.
Others, on the other hand, may expect more personal attention and hand holding and Penn State will frustrate them over and over if that’s what they expect and they will end up unhappy there.
The point of my post was to say that people need to decide which one they are before they decide to attend a school with 40,000+ students.
I support every person here and I hope and pray that everyone gets accepted. I’m rooting everyone on and I understand the frustration from personal experience. I’m just trying to add some perspective but the timing on that may have been wrong since tensions are so high.
Looks like a bunch of Smeal people are finding out tonight at midnight based on their TO bars missing. Oh well, I guess Liberal Arts will have to keep waiting. Darn.
My mom worked for a large university for 40 years, I know how they operate. They also release EA decisions all on the same day. So this way isn’t always the way for big institutions.
But empathy goes a long way. When everyone you know has a decision and you don’t it would be unreasonable to think it wouldn’t affect someone. Especially in the age we are now.
Ya’ll should spend time in the Ohio State thread. They released a few decisions on Dec 11, and no one knows when the next batch will be coming…but definitely by Jan 29.
Same with Rutgers they released 2 random batches , no one knows when is next batch not even a email from Rutgers radio silence
At least PSU has a date set 12/24
My friends are panicking should we apply more colleges as we are cutting close to RD deadlines. Lot of uncertainty sadly
