I am debating whether to run for class president or national honor society president. I care deeply about how my school is run, but I cannot be both at the same time. Which one might seem better on a college application? I want to have as much of an influence as possible in the leadership of my school.
National Honor Society President looks more prestigious, and demonstrates that you beat out a lot of top-performers if you win. That being said, it’s a tougher position to obtain, so running for class president may be safer. You should really go with which one you think you’re more likely to win, so you can put that on your application. And if you’re concerned the most about your school, which it sounds like you are, you should focus there.
To be honest, if you win your school’s presidency, your application essay could focus more on how committed you were to your own school’s policies.
There’s really no wrong choice here. Whichever one you think you can win, go with that.
Uh correct me if I’m wrong but class president would be much more impressive than National Honor Society president. Pretty sure being the president of the entire class is greater than just one club. And plus National Honor Society is honestly one of the most common and boring clubs seen by admission offciers.
Honestly doesn’t matter too much.
What matters is what you do with that position, so run for the position that you think you can utilize the most to contribute to the school.
I think class president would be more impressive but it won’t make a big difference either way. Do what interests you instead of what you think looks better – you passion will come through on your application.
Do what fits you, but I would definitely say that class president is more impressive.
I doubt either one would hold much importance but, in my opinion, NHS President is more impressive, as it reflects the opinions of a more elite group of students, as opposed to the pure “popularity contest” of class president.
Class president is more impressive. You are leading a much larger and more diverse group and it requires you to get more people to vote for you, it is probably a harder and more time consuming job. Do nhs officers even have to be elected? or do teachers select them?
