So right now I am enrolled in 4 classes that I look forward to taking, but I need another class. I am currently enrolled in Botany 240: Plants and Men. Does anyone know anything about this class? The description seems pretty vague. Also does anyone have any feedback on HIST SCI 201: The Origins of Scientific Thought or ART HIST 379: Cities of Asia. Thanks

A friend of mine took botany 240 last yea, said it was very very difficult.

Take classes that interest you, in spite of the grade distribution.

You can also look at ratemyprofessor.com to read students’ comments about the instructors.

Ditto on classes that interest you. Don’t worry if you don’t get a 4.0 at UW (most unlikely you will even have a 3.75, those going on to grad et al schools probably won’t have that high of an overall gpa if they took courses to learn and not just for the gpa)- a B in a course unrelated to your major doesn’t matter. Go for your interest and learn something you won’t/can’t learn elsewhere. College isn’t about getting a perfect gpa, it is about gaining knowledge and stretching your boundaries.

Don’t just look at the grade distributions. Choose classes that are interesting. I have taken some pretty dull classes because I thought they would be easy, and now as I start my senior year I regret it.

Unless you possess a science brain & REALLY like it, I wouldn’t take one of them for fun. My D has to take them for her major, and most of these classes are highly competitive, a lot of work, and skewed curve-wise towards a B. That’s why to be accepted into many of the B.S. programs after taking the prerequisites, the minimum science GPA for acceptance is a 2.8, which sounds ridiculously low…until you have to take the classes. The physiology class she finished today was curved 90-100 (A), 89.0-89.9 (A/B), and 80-88.9 (B). Kinda hard to hit that A/B!

Thanks for the replies. I decided to go with history of science 201 (as ILS 201) instead of botany.
