I go to a very rigorous private; possibly to best in the US Virgin Islands. My gpa is a 3.0 but my class rank is 3 out of 10; hopefully it doesn’t drop to 4 out of ten because of the new student. Will my class rank make up for my gpa. I have decent EC’s centered around business and technology; I even have 1 failed startup, and an electronic repair business I recently started. I’m a URM and have a very interesting history involving bullying, confidence, and poverty. What do you think are my chances; I’m a junior in my 4th marking period.
Also, this school doesn’t offer AP classes.
If you look at the class profile:
http://admission.stanford.edu/basics/selection/profile.html
you’ll see that 95% of the students admitted to Stanford’s class of 2018 were in the top 10% of their high school classes. Note that 73% of the them also had a GPA of 4.0 and above. As you know, your stats are not at this level.
The Stanford CDS mentions that only 35% of admitted students submitted class rank, so the clear majority of admits had unknown class rank. I’m not familiar with the school system in the US Virgin Islands, but in typical continental US schools, I doubt that a school with so few students would have a mandatory submitted class rank. However, a 3.0 GPA does not bode well for chance of admission (assuming similar grade distribution to US schools). As aleaiactaest mentioned, almost all admits have higher grades.
So those 85 students who are admitted with a GPA below 3.70, are all athletes?
