Class Rank

I go to a very small private girls school with about 117 girls in my class. The problem is, over 80 of them have Merit Honors Status (88%) and I think about 30-40 each quarter have Honor Roll Status(94%). I have been on ist honors (overall) for both freshman and sophomore years, but I'm not sure wherer I rank among those forty students, which is like 30% of my class, while that elusive top 10% is only about 11 or 12 girls, compared to larger schools where there may be 30 or 40 students in that same category because of the larger school.

My question- if my class rank is in that top 25%, will colleges realize that that is not bad considering the size of my student body? Hopefully I will be able to bring my status up myself junior year, but I'm just wondering if they would take that into account. or does it completely destroy my chances at schools (particularly Cornell - Harvard really doesn't interest me. . .sorry)

Thank you for your help

Does your school, in fact, rank by number? At a school like yours, where the differences between students are minimal, this number is meaningless. My Ds school is like yours. On college recommendations, they say they do not rank students.

To some extent colleges realize the much higher quality student body, but I would argue not to the extent that they should. It is important to find out if your school reports rank. Also, find out where past students ranked ~ 30 were able to get in.

The schools "size up" privates by looking at how hard they are to get into and average SAT scores to get a feel what it means to do well at the school.
