When being placed in a math class during orientation, what factors are taken into consideration besides the Math Placement Exam? I'd like to start out with a Calculus class but I'm not sure how the process works. I took the MPE and found it to be very easy and I've always done well in all my math classes however, the last math class I took in HS was Trig/Precalc.

For those who already attended orientation, how were you placed?

I was placed in Math115 - Pre-Calc., but only because I got a 600 on the SAT. Otherwise, if it was only based on how I did on the math placement exam, I would've had to take Math111. So I guess your SAT score factors in what you take, but def not the classes that you took in high school. Cuz I mean I freakin already took AP Calc. AB just this year. I'm going to take the re-take the math replacement and try to get placed into Calc.. So if you want to get into Calc., just make sure to review enough to do well enough to be placed in Calc.. Dam, I'm still pretty peeved I wasn't able to get into Calc!! I kin took Precalc in 11th grade, I just didn't remember some of that bull** on the math placement test, thus did poorly.

Estimate how you think you did on the MPE. There are a total of 67 questions on the MPE. 11 on the first part, 18 on the second part, 25 on the third part and 13 on the last part. I'm asking because I'd like to gauge how I did compared to you.

The first section was extremely easy so I know I probably got everything right. Same goes for the second section, probably everything right. On the third part, I probably got 5 wrong, at most. On the last part, 4 wrong, at most.

yeah, they showed us how we did. my results were:

Part I - Arithmetic: 11 out of 11
Part II - Algebra I: 12 out of 18
Part III - Algebra II: 16 out of 26
Part IV - Trig: 10 out of 14

Yeah, I would've done better, too but I got confused with how much time I had left, so when I thought I didn't have any time left, I just submitted all my answers even the ones I thought I didn't have time to do. But actually I had like 10 more minutes for like 2 sections!! i got screwed

A couple more questions regarding registering for classes. Did each student register with the advisors on a one-on-one basis or did the advisor instruct the students how to register as a group and were left to do it on their own? Secondly, is there some sort of list online where I could find the core classes and electives?

Every college does it different. What's your major? I could tell you how your college runs things at Orientation.

When you attend orientation, how are you told the results of your math placement exam? Do you log in to a certain website? Or given a sheet of paper with your scores?

I'm in the Markets and Society program in L&S.

Letters and Sciences...I'm pretty sure you go in with a small group (4-5 students) in a computer lab with the advisor.
