Hello, fellow students! I’m Austin. I’m 16 and I live in Oklahoma. I’m going to be entering the 10th grade this September. I’m writing this post to ask for advice on my current class selection for this school year.
First off, let me tell you a little bit about myself. Other than basic information.
Current career path - Aeronautical engineer. Maybe a minor in climate science.
GPA - 4.0 (I took standard core classes for 9th grade)
Current school choice - OKstate or Uni of OK. Other school choices if the circumstances (grades haha) are right. Rice University, MIT (one can dream), John Hopkins, Boston University, Washington University.

I’ve been thinking about my selected classes for a while now, but I think I’ve finally come to a decision, I think. I’m meeting with my teacher next week to select my classes for this school term. But, I would like some advice from people who have experience with the classes I’ve selected. So, I’ll insert the list of selected classes and my pros and cons of the classes.
AP Biology -
Pros. -
- College credit
- Challenging class
- Builds my understanding and prepares me for future college classes.
Cons/concerns -
- Do I really need to take it if I'm going to be majoring in Aeronautical/Aerospace engineering? I know I should almost definitely take Calc, AP Chem, and AP Physics if I'm going to take advanced classes according to my selected major.
Honors Algebra 1 -
Yes, I know. “Why are you taking Algebra 1 in 10th grade?”. Well, for some reason my school does math in this order Geometry-Alg 1- Alg 2- Pre-calc or AP Calc. Anyways, no pros or cons here.
AP Government or AP U.S History -
Pros. -
- Prepares me for future college classes.
- It's one semester for some reason. Any idea why?
- College credit.
- U.S History really interest me.
Cons. -
- I don't know if I really want to do this class, considering it's not essential at all for my selected major. Especially for hard-science related careers. (No offense to history majors.)
- With all the Honors classes and AP Biology, I worry that I'll be overloaded with work if I decide to do this class.

- Should I take this class in 10th grade, or should wait until 11th grade and take the AP version of it?
