Hi! So I am an incoming senior, and I'd like to major in biology when I am in college. I am going to take community college classes concurrently with my high school schedule this year, but I am not sure which class is the better option (more useful) if I am going into pre-medical studies in college.

Should I take Human Biology with Laboratory for the fall semester? I'm not too sure if that is a class that will be transferable to a UC. Does anyone know? Following that class, I may take Fundamentals of Biological Science with Laboratory in the spring.

Or should I take Introductory Chemistry for the fall semester, then take General College Chemistry 1 for the spring semester, and then perhaps Introductory to Organic Chemistry in the summer?

So what do you think? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! :)

Whatever you do, make sure you get an A in the class as it will be in your record forever.

If the course is transferable to a UC or Cal State, it will be noted as such in the college catalog. It should have an IGETC designation.

Intro Chem may or may not be transferable. At some jucos, Intro Chem is like a HS honors class for those with no or a weak background in Chem. Some UC campuses even offer a 2-unit Intro Chem course. But it will not satisfy a premed prereq.

If you are in California, you should take the Chem sequence first. (It is a prereq at several UCs for Bio.)

[Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) will help you find which California community college courses match up to which courses for each major at each UC and CSU.

For example, if you are targeting Molecular and Cell Biology (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) at Berkeley, and you will attend Mission College, you can read the following report:

<a href=“Welcome to ASSIST”>Welcome to ASSIST;

It says that Mission College’s Chemistry 1A and 1B match up to Berkeley’s Chemistry 1A/1AL and 1B. For Berkeley’s Biology 1A and 1B, you can take Mission College’s Biology 1A and 1B, or Biology 41, 42, and 43.

I have exactly the same advice: "Whatever you do, make sure you get an A in the class as it will be in your record forever. " It does not matter what you take, just get an A.
