Class Waitlists?

I thought I read somewhere that spots for classes open up at each orientation, but on the last day of my orientation, most of the intro classes that I needed to take were either closed or waitlisted when I woke up at 8:00 AM and remained that way for the next 3 hours until I gave up and decided to check out of Jester and go home (I was refreshing the course schedule page for each of my classes like every 15 seconds, no joke).

I am seriously concerned about my schedule right now. I am #10/10 and #2/2 on the waitlists on two of the classes I want to take and 2 more are currently closed. The only class I could sign up for was a UGS and I am not particularly happy with it (little interest).

Is there going to be a big wave of class openings soon/right before class starts, or should I just cross my fingers? Does anyone know if these slots are just closed by the university to be opened later or if actual students are occupying them?

I know that some slots open up due to students not paying their tuition on time, but I find it hard to believe that there will be a substantial increase in openings after the advisers at orientation warned us about that multiple times.

Just out of curiosity, what’s your major and what waitlists are you on? I put myself on a waitlist yesterday when I registered and as of this morning have already been added to the class.

Nice name, GordmanFreeon. Is that supposed to be a cool way of spelling “Gordon Freeman”? If so, nice! Anyways, I wouldn’t be anywhere near worried at this point. Last summer when I attended orientation I was in the same boat as you. I got all of my classes from the waitlist in August. Just wait it out, you will be fine.

I was on a waitlist for two classes 2/2 and 12/12, and now I just got into both. So if you’re pretty high on the list you’ll probably get it, I wouldn’t worry.

I just got into a couple of classes I wanted. I’m feeling a lot better. Thanks for the reassurance, guys.

@buriedalie I’m majoring in mechanical engineering and I’m waitlisted for ME 302 (2/2) and a particular section of EM 306 (12/12). I’m registered and okay with my current section, but I really prefer not to have my discussion session so late in the evening.

@ampzor Yes, I’m a really big Half-Life fan. Also, thanks for the advice.

Hit me up if you have any questions regarding mechincal engineering (classes, professors, ect.) and I would be more than glad to help. I transfered into mechanical engineering a year ago.

I suggest just taking M E 205 instead of 302, and take 302 in the spring. That class isn’t needed until you take M E 311 which won’t be until next fall or summer at the earliest (depending on when you want to take it).
