Classes cancelled for tomorrow

Winter Weather Advisory - Classes & Normal Operations Cancelled as of 9:00 p.m.
Monday, February 10, 4:38 p.m.: Although weather forecasts for the next few days continue to be uncertain, the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for north central Alabama, including Tuscaloosa and the UA campus, from 9 p.m. today through midnight Wednesday, Feb. 12. The prediction is for snow, sleet and freezing rain starting this evening through Wednesday at midnight. Based on this forecast, classes, work schedules for non-essential personnel and all activities at The University of Alabama are canceled starting at 9 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 10 through Tuesday, Feb. 11. A decision about classes and operations for Wednesday, Feb. 12, will be made later and will be communicated to the campus via email, the UA home page, local media, social media and text messages. More Information…

My understanding is there is an email with details. I won’t get this straight, but there is a two hour notice about classes tomorrow. So at 8:00 you can find out about 10:00 class, etc?

Here is part of the email regarding the weather and classes.

Because of the number of class days already canceled this semester due to weather, if road and weather conditions improve and the campus has power on Tuesday or Wednesday, UA will notify employees and students that classes, activities and normal operations will resume within two hours of being notified via UA Alerts.

Students and employees are encouraged to continue to monitor local weather sources and changing weather conditions along their travel routes.

The University’s emergency preparedness group will continue to monitor weather reports. If needed, updated information will be available on the UA website at http://www.ua.edu<http://www.ua.edu/</a>, through local radio and television stations, and via UA Alerts text and email alerts.

Persons traveling outside the UA area should check the Alabama Department of Transportation website at http://alitsweb.dot.state.al.us/RoadConditions</a> for road conditions to their destination.

Please note the following concerning campus services for tonight and Tuesday, Feb. 11:

The Rec Center, the Libraries and the Ferguson Center will be closed.
Dining halls at Lakeside and Burke and Julia’s Market in Tutwiler will be open.
Crimson Ride buses will not run.
Call 348-5454 if you need emergency transportation.
The Ferguson Mail Center will be closed. Students can access their mailboxes by using the 24-hour entrance.

As I shovel yet another 6" of snow out of my driveway this evening…I was wondering how the numerous days off school and/or half-day disruptions at UA have affected any of your students’ classes. How are they making up the work? How are professors covering the material? Does this seem to be affecting their grades in any way, etc.?

I really feel for all of the students and teachers.

My D has had it rough. She had a Gmat test rescheduled because of a snow day. The “only” time she can take it is during 2 classes. So she misses 2 more classes. Ugh! Couldn’t be helped. Her MBA interview was rescheduled. Her teachers have rescheduled HW help and labs. More info has been squeezed in less time. Other teachers have “pushed on” and given tests anyway. Her schedule is already crazy hard this term and the snow days have made it worse.
