Classes cancelled Monday

My son picked up the meals: he got turkey and cheese sandwiches and chips. He had no idea that turkey would go bad if the power was off. OMG, he’s an honor student, where did I go wrong? He said when he got there, the selection was very slim. At least he has PB & J plus junk food.

He also said they cannot sleep in the hallways, and this really bothers me. They would be so much safer than in the rooms. I’m starting to feel they should have made a mandatory evacuation.

just saw a picture off facebook of the “meals” they had to pick up. All I can say is I hope those kiddos left behind have lots of snacks! Be safe kids and have fun and I hope the power stays on. I know they have generators but it won’t supply everything. D said they were briefed before she left and they said if it rains as much as they expect it to they will evacuate the kids left behind and relocate them in the field house. hope they can stay in their dorms.

My DD said they ran out of bread at Pencador. She and her roommate picked up soda and chips. Great. But they are well stocked as they went shopping on their own yesterday. I mentioned sleeping in the hallways (to stay away from the windows, since the overnight tomorrow will probably be the peak of the storm); she mentioned they may all just hunker down together in the lounge.

Lefty1: I didn’t hear about the field house. Ugh. I hope they can stay in their dorm, too.

me too Linymom! thinking good thoughts for all the kids there. I was impressed with the organization the school seems to have for these situations and I know they’ll keep all the kids safe. I’m sure these kids will have stories they’ll love to tell for years to come about sleeping in the halls and riding out the storm. :)

Adventure is terror and discomfort recounted at a later date.

The kids will be talking about this experience for the rest of their lives.

Fauster, I agree with you. According to my son, they are having fun. Let’s see in another hour when it hits! I just hope they don’t lose power, but they probably will.

According to the UD website, no classes on Wednesday either but they are re-opening the dining halls on Wednesday. Hopefully, they will have real food.

Good luck to all the parents in the path of the storm. We are in south Jersey and just hoping to keep our electric power.

Does anyone know if there is power outage or significant damage on campus? My daughter has a long drive back, and I am wondering if classes will probably resume on Thursday, or if they will cancel the rest of the week?

My son is in Russell, and as of last night around 9, they still had power. I will update for you when I hear from him this morning. I don’t know about the rest of the campus since he has not been out.

jbsmom, I’m also waiting for an update. I got a grumpy response when I called at 11:00 yesterday morning - apparently noon was wake-up time.

I skyped with my daughter around 10 last night and the lights had flickered just before then. I’ll post if I hear any news before you.

Just talked with my daughter. UD has power and everything there is calm. She’s looking forward to brunch tomorrow morning in the cafeteria, although the sandwiches weren’t bad at all.

Thanks for the update. I will tell my daughter to plan to drive back tomorrow.

My son finally called. He said the hurricane seemed like a non-event, not much wind or rain. He was out on the green this morning and said everything was fine. If I know him, he will be out on Main Street this afternoon, also talked about playing wiffleball.

Fauster, I don’t call in the morning, I text and wait either for a text back or call. The son that was always up at 6am school, weekends, or summers has discovered staying up late and sleeping late!
