Classes cancelled tomorrow due to storm -- why ???

So, we learned that Stevens has cancelled classes tomorrow. I don’t understand how given the most expensive school in NJ, they cannot properly get the campus in shape 1.5 days after the storm.

Yesterday the athletic center was closed and the young adults had nothing to do. I find it ridiculous that the school isn’t prepared and cancels classes.

What about the faculty?n they don’t usually live on campus. This was the second worst storm in NYC history.

Hoboken is a big city and the hub of train and bus service. Today was close to 40 degrees. Want a delayed start, fine. But to cancel all day, is not setting the right example.

I think they don’t want students struggling to get back to campus for tomorrow if they are off campus, and pretty much none of the faculty and staff live on campus. Lots of colleges in areas affected by the storm have cancelled classes for tomorrow. Those poor young adults… I am sure they will figure out something to do while the gym is closed.

I don’t understand how given that NJ and most of the East Coast have been under a state of emergency, that you cannot figure out how to entertain yourself when the athletic center is temporarily closed.

Oh Please, it isn’t about entertaining themselves, it is about why the school isn’t holding classes. Most of us will have to figure out how to get to work in the morning, I’m sure the students and faculty can figure it out. It sets the wrong example. The school isn’t in the wilderness, it is in Hoboken.

@cutback You are exhibiting a bad case of helicopter parenting.

Call Goldman Sachs and see if they expect their employees to get to work tomorrow.

A severe case of helicopter parenting!

Stevens is closed Monday probably for the same reason all Hoboken public schools are closed Monday:

Do the city streets leading to Stevens deserve snow removal priority because you pay the most expensive tuition in NJ?

Both Columbia and NYU are open as normal. I’m fine with some students being late, but why make all pay the penalty for those who need a little extra commuting time.

Columbia & NYU are in NYC, in NY state. Why not ask Mayor De Blasio to fund snow-free underground public transport in Hoboken.

Dude, it’s just one day. What’s all the fuss? Do you feel ripped off a day, since you’re paying for the most expensive school in NJ?

I guess I have high expectations than most. I’d expect a school with the great reputation of Stevens to be better prepared and set the right example.

Sure, it’s easy to close the school if no one gives a hoot and let others persevere and ‘get the job done’

What does a school’s academic reputation have to do w the city of Hoboken responding to an epic pan-East Coast state of emergency?

Stevens is a private institution. They are not held by the city public school closing. Most students are residents either on campus or located within wlaking distance. Closing the entire day is ridiculous. 3 hour delay I can understand.

I think that the point is that the professors and staff do not live on campus and are unable to safely make it to school.

But most of the staff (faculty & services) don’t.

@cutback

Are you sitting and posting from one of the snow-affected areas?

First world problems

I estimate that cutback’s area got about 60% of the snow that Stevens did.
