I am a freshman, ready to start in the fall. I am completely overwhelmed and have no idea which classes I'm supposed to be trying to register for during the upcoming orientation. Can anyone offer some much needed guidance?

I myself am just as confused as you are but i think i might be able to help.

Apparently from what I am hearing, freshmen during the 1st quarter can only take 3 classes (15 credits) after that you can take more. 1 of those classes is your core class. Another should be a class for your major (intro to psych? unless you took the ap exam?) , and another should be a GE course. You can take w/e but this is what ppl recommend.

I’m confused on what to do for comp. sci :/

@mashka92: Psych 1 is very impacted, so you might want to have a back up plan. Starting on math classes would be a good idea. Course requirements are stated here: [General Psychology Major Requirements](http://psych.ucsc.edu/undergraduate/gen_major_req.php)

@monkeyshinobi: Core, math, and a programming class. 12A if you’ve programmed before, 5J or 10 if you have not.

^Hey thanks! Should I take intro to comp sci? I mean I am pretty new to comp sci. Or is it ok just to take intro to prog. java. first?

If you know anything about comp sci you probably shouldn’t take CS10. It would make for a really easy first quarter though, if you’re at all worried about that. Doing CS5J in fall is only a disadvantage in that you’ll need to wait until Spring to take the followup course, CS11, so don’t get rusty! I’ll be tutoring for CS5J too. :P

yeah I am pretty new to CS. I don’t know anything to be honest. So I think i’ll go with CS10 to start with. And then Intro to Java after that.

Thanks~! :D
