Hi guys, pls help me decide which classes I should take. My registration packet is due in 3 days and I can’t decide my schedule for next year. I will be majoring in either computer science/business
I also have one question. Since the colleges that I plan on applying won’t count my senior year grade in overall GPA of college app, should I push all the harder classes to senior year? (So I can get high GPA junior year and raise my 3.5 GPA
- junior: english 11, US history, Honors PreCalc, AP human geography, AP Statistic, leadership
Senior: english 12, government, AP Calculus BC, AP physics, AP Psychology, Drama
- junior: english 11, US history, PreCalc, AP human geography, AP statistic, AP psychology
Senior: english 12, governemnt, Calculus, AP physics, AP computer science, Drama
*i am not good at math so I’m 100% sure I’ll get B in both Honors precalc and Ap calc. But I’m sure ill get A in both precalc and calc
*my overall GPA is only 3.5 now and I would like to raise my GPA
*ap physics, ap calc, ap compsci are the hardest classes in my school
B in Honors Precalc and AP Calc > A in regular. (However, C in Honors or Ap means you should downgrade to regular).
If you’re applying to top colleges, you’ll need level 3 and 4 of a foreign language (or at least up to level 3).
Suggestions:
Junior: English 11, US history, Honors PreCalc, AP human geography, AP Psychology, foreign language 3 or 4
Senior: English 12, government, AP Calculus AB OR Calculus (not AP) depending on Honors Precalc grade, AP physics, AP CS, leadership or drama
Oh I already took AP Chinese so I don’t have to worry about foreign language. Thanks for your help @MYOS1634 ~ so what class should I take instead of foreign language? Oh and,
If I take ap compsci, ap physic, ap calc at the same time, I’ll get F in at least one of them for sure. My school is very competitive and these 3 are the hardest. The passing rate of ap compsci is like 17%…
I like your first option junior year schedule a lot. The leadership class is a good one to have in there for colleges, even though they probably won’t even look at the classes you’ve taken. But if they do, it’s a good one.
My biggest piece of advice: Why are you taking AP physics if your interests lie in business and computer science? Physics is hard and dry and very easy to get behind in. If I were you, I’d do the first option, but replace physics with computer science! No brainer!
If you’re worried about taking AP physics, or even any of the others, just so you have a lot of AP classes for college, seriously don’t sweat it. They hardly look at the classes you’re taking. They do look at your GPA, but there are so many other factors that can outdo a bad or average GPA. Make sure you get community service. And not just the minimum amount- go above and beyond. Connect it to your interests and be a self-starter with it. Also, if you don’t have one already, get a job!!
And if it is any piece of mind, I’m a freshman at UNC Chapel Hill and here was my schedule:
Junior Year: AP Psychology, AP Language and Composition, Honors Chem, Biomedical Technology, Marketing, Honors US History.
Senior Year: AP Stat, Honors English, forensics, Honors biomed (basically the same thing, but somehow they let me in haha), and I had early release.
Don’t stress out about your classes-- stress out about the things that matter on your application that can set you apart from other students. You’re all taking the same classes, but only you can make something of the time you have with community service, extracurriculars, and a job. Be a leader and you’ll get in wherever you want! Good luck!
@RKD89023 thank you so much for the advice! Sorry for the late reply :o your advice is very helpful! I’ll spend more time to discover my passion and try to link community service to it! Thanks!
