Wondering if anyone can recommend music schools that have strong programs in classical instrumental performance (BM), but also offer the possibility of studying/ minoring in some type of music business. D is definitely most interested in performance, but I think both of us like the idea of something a little more practical to go along with that.
She could look into the dual degree program at the University of Rochester.

However, UR’s business program appears to be general in nature (i.e., without a specific track for music business).
I should add that she seems to be learning toward slightly larger schools (i.e. colleges and universities with conservatories or conservatory-level music programs as opposed to stand alone conservatories), and probably not a duel degree or double major situation. She’s a good student and musician, but I can’t imagine trying to manage such a workload. She’s a pretty driven kid, but I don’t think a dual degree would be the best fit. Will look more closely at Eastman. Thanks for the suggestion, @merc81
I would encourage doing undergrad in performance and leaving practical worries aside fir a couple of years. Most conservatories and schools of music have things like entrepreneurship and outreach. Internships, including during the summer, can provide a lot of job skills ( though she might want to do festivals for awhile.) Music grads are well respected in the job market and in grad and professional schools. It is s gift to work at what you love for undergrad though in this day and age of loans the worries are understandable. Many of us have found that things do work out☺️
My friend’s kid is at University of Michigan double majoring in Musical Theater and business - with the plans to become a Broadway producer. So my guess is UofM a good connection between the two disciplines.
At Indiana there are classes w/ the Kelley school of business re: music entrepreneurship for those in the Jacob’s school. Many of the orientations we have been thru focused on the business side (Temple comes to mind as it was the most recent)
Phone typing sorry!
Also when my S graduated from UM’s (Michigan) music school in 2015 they were ramping up offerings in entrepreneurship so it would definitely be worth looking there. CIM has something called CIM2 (CIM squared) that fosters entrepreneurship.

A lot of the schools, from freestanding conservatories to university schools of music, have entrepreneurship or seminars on career=building etc. But a lot of the practical skills can be attained outside of school. Non-profits, orchestras, music agencies, festivals, all need help.
