I'm looking to ask a question of anyone who got a clear admit letter. Anyone out there? Thanks

ive seen a few people on other threads post that they got likely letters
are these for people who are just insanely good?

I got one of those. I was kind of shocked I didn't know we'd be finding out so early (I thought we'd find out in late march).

I got one too and was also schocked. I thought it was gonna be something saying they got my finacial aid stuff.

Oh im not insanely good nor an athlete actually i am kind of mediocre compared to the other students applying

When did you guys receive these letters? (roughly)

heck, what do they say?

Yeah, I'd like to know what they say, too ...

I got a letter in December and it basically said I was approved for admission and welcoming me to the "Farm." Stanford can't officially admit people early, but they can as they put it "approve your admission." However, you don't get the big packet until late March.

basically something to the effect of
I am pleased to be able to offer you approval for admission. you were among the top very few of applicants that I could inform early of thier acceptance to Stanford University. (blah blah blah ya get the point)

It also states that a formal letter of acceptance will be sent in late march with everyone else's decision.

It also included some finacial aid info and an estimate of how much they are gonna give me in scholarships

When did you receive it, out of curiosity? And did you send in an arts supplement or something that they might conceivably be wanting to 'recruit' for?

The letter was dated Feb 2. I got it around the 6-7thish. No art supplement. I actually decided to appli at the last minute about a week before the app was due.

wow... lucky..

any internationals who have received this?

Wow.

I don't know any internationals who've received a likely letter, spacepirate (at least, not in my social circle, and I know quite a few highly-qualified Indian applicants); still, if the letters were posted on Feb 2, chances are they simply haven't reached India yet, so it's entirely possible that there are a few around somewhere. (I am judging from the fact that letters sent to me from the UK take 7-10 days to reach at the very minimum, even by priority post; US would take longer still.)

I got mine Feb 5. I'm not international though (I'm an US citizen living in Taiwan).

I was really shocked in the beginning and started checking CC to make sure that it wasn't fake, lol (but didn't find confirmation till now).

ps. oh btw, the letter was dated Jan 30.

pps. so does this mean we're in, or not?

A likely letter should mean that you are in. The new admission dean, Richard Shaw, said he was going to use likely letters to entice more students to Stanford.

I want to comment a little about our 'Likely Admit Program', because this is where the faculty has been very involved this year. This reaches out to the most extraordinary kids early, before the Regular Review mailing date. We ask the faculty to join us in trying to interact and contact them, actively recruiting those prospective students beginning in January […just like the athletic team coaches]. We send them a letter that says '…you are an extraordinary person and if all holds stable you will be admitted to Stanford and we want you to come here!' We follow those letters with calls from the faculty. This January we had 61 what we call 'Super-star Academic Likelies' and another 60 'Multicultural Likelies'. Each of these 121 students will be admitted to every competitive institution in the country. We're trying to get at them early and convince them that this is the place that they really want to attend.

i just got one today :D! it's great to know that i have somewhere to go next year. i think i got one for being an intel finalist (i hear they send all finalists a likely)

dayum...congrats!

Just out of curiosity, what was your project for Intel? I was considering entering but never really got around to it :-

thanks. my project was on the mechanisms of proton transport, which is a component of fuel cells. i didn't expect to make it to semis, much less finals. but i'm not definitely not complaining.

i got one too...my stats arent spectacular. I dont know why

you guys are sooooo lucky :(
i would die for that one likely letter from Stanford.
do you know about how many letters they send out?
