Thanks so much!!!
Great suggestions above! However, the self-guided tour map that can be found right outside the visitor’s center was really helpful!
As an OOS accepted student, is it normal not to get a single dollar of aid with a low EFC score? I’m genuinely confused.
Yes, this is typically the case for OOS state schools, with a few exceptions. State schools are supported by the taxes from residents, so grants/FA go to in-state students who qualify for aid. To receive FA (outside of the federal loan), you would need to go to a college within your own state of residence. Hope this helps explain; did you/your student apply to their in-state flagship?
Interestingly here in PA two of the big flagships PSU and PITT really don’t give much merit money at all. Temple does give some decent merit and the smaller state schools, like IUP, West Chester, etc give some decent merit as well.
I interpreted the post as if they were looking for pell grants, etc for an OOS applicant based on EFC, not merit?
I was a PA girl (many decades ago); I didn’t see a penny of merit or FA from in-states I did have better luck at the privates back then. Did your D21 decide?
We did the self-guided tour and the map was helpful. My daughter found one online too that we liked. And lastly, check the Clemson instagram account. There’s a highlighted story that’s a campus tour.
Yes D21 is taking the 38K per year merit money at Miami University (Ohio) to study nursing. Will only be pay about 12K of room and board.
That’s awesome; my BFF’s daughter just committed to there as well over the weekend. You can always retire down here if you get sick of the weather in PA.
Love that she’s getting that much aid!! Congrats and wishing her the best in Nursing at Miami U!
Dont think I will be retiring to Oxford Ohio…lol. Miami University in Oxford Ohio, University of Miami in Coral Gables Florida. It is confusing for sure.
Thanks D18 loves Clemson but using AP credits to graduate in May and off to law school. The merit money at Miami was just too much for D21 to pass up. Plus she wants different things than her sister.
Lol, I knew which Miami. I meant you could retire down here near Clemson, even if your D21 isn’t headed this way. Lake Keowee’s filling up quickly though.
LOL. Sorry this like a game of “telephone”…
Certainly would mind being down there in a few years
anyone get off the waitlist yet?
Anyone know when non-priority Honors decisions come out?
4/1
I spoke with two different people in Fin Aid office this morning asking when we will be able to see the actual cost of attendance before committing. I was told that actual numbers won’t be available until late June or early July. I was shocked. Are we supposed to blindly commit to attending, not knowing for certain what the actual tuition and fees will be? First-time college student here. Is this normal? All my other schools have already clearly outlined costs of attendance.
I’m with you. That’s shocking. People need to know so they can compare packages and make a final decision. Chalk it up to a very odd admissions year. I hope you get an answer soon or someone here has a more helpful response.
