Tigertown Bound!

DS received his Tigertown Bound envelope today, including a merit award of $15,000/year.

In case it helps anyone, he had 34 ACT and 4.2 (W, 3.9 uw) gpa. He was number 50 in a class of 496, so just one the line of top 10%. We were very uncertain as to how his class rank would affect his eligibility for the highest level of merit award, as it was very frustrating to be right on the cusp of the top 10% and all of the imformation we could find said being in the top 10% critical.

Congrats! I got my packet today as well, which is odd considering Clemson said they’d send it with everyone else’s in my provisional acceptance letter lol. Are you IS or OOS? Clemson only offered me 4,000 over four years but said that the big in-state scholarship would bump that up to somewhere in the 39k-58k range.

Just for reference for anyone that’s curious:
33 ACT, 4.765 GPA (weighted on the South Carolina scale), test score high enough for Palmetto Fellows

We are OOS. We are not eligible for need-based aid (and yes I have run the numbers to confirm that) so this makes a huge difference for us.

@Clairea When did you apply?
@Kryskov My son also had provisional acceptance last year. Are you instate?

@Clairea That’s great! Glad it’s working out! What major did he apply to?

@carolinamom2boys Yes, I am!

Congrads future tigers! Thanks for posting. Hoping my DS also has good news to share here soon!!

He applied right at the beginning of August. He had provisional acceptance from last year, but being out-of-state the merit award was key.

He applied to (and was accepted for) genetics. He will probably double major or add a minor with biochemistry.

@Clairea and @Cheeringsection It sounds like the notifications so far have been to provisional acceptance students. My son is one so hopefully we’ll hear soon. Thx for the info.

Son received the same notice as @Clairea’s today. We are OOS. 33 ACT, 4.0 UW, 4.46 W, top 5%. Applied in Sept.

Someone mentioned the term provisional. What does that mean?

@Gr8One Clemson sent my son a letter last spring while he was a junior basically granting him acceptance for Fall of 2016 based on his GPA and test scores reported by the College Board. He needed to fill out his application once they opened the application period in August. We’re still waiting for my son’s official letter.

Thanks for the explanation @carolinamom2boys. Is it his top choice? My son fell in love with it in our recent campus visit.
I fell in love with the Greenville area and upstate in general after we toured the forests and waterfalls upstate and across the border into NC.

@Gr8One It’s neck and neck with another school. I live in a suburb of Greenville, so it would be my first choice. It’s a great area and location . 2 1/2 hrs to Atlanta and Charlotte, 4 hrs to Charleston , 3 hrs to the mountains of Tennessee . Is it your child’s first choice?

My daughter got an email this morning saying it is a follow-up to her admissions decision letter, giving instruction on how to log in and register for housing etc…But, there has been no admissions decision letter received yet. I guess they call it snail mail for a reason.

We also have the email but no letter. I can’t figure out the scholarship offer even after logging in.

I got accepted provisionally as well. I checked the iRoar account they gave me but still am not sure to check the exact amount of award I got. Will an official bill be sent out later in the year?

Still waiting here. We live 45 minutes from Clemson, you’d think we’d hear something . Son has been provisional accepted and stats are comparable to posters who have gotten their letters already. :frowning:

@Dallas14 how did you log in? It seemed from the email that you had to have the user name that was in the snail mail acceptance letter.

@carolinamom2boys - we are out of state, maybe they are sending acceptances for people out of state first?

@Themommymommy One of the original posters is instate . I’m just getting impatient. DS16 is not worried, but until I get letter in hand, I will worry. Congrats to your daughter. Is Clemson her first choice?

I know the feeling about worrying until you have the proof these colleges appreciate how nice and deserving our kids are. My daughter is looking at several universities with food science programs. And actually, @carolinamom2boys the idea to apply to Clemson came from reading your posts! You always gave it such glowing reviews it seemed worthwhile to apply and see if she can get in to the university and then into the Calhoun College. We have not had a chance to visit yet. It is next on the list of places to visit but we thought maybe we would wait until the weather is truly foul here, which unfortunately will be all too soon.
