I submitted my application Oct 15 and it still says “Awaiting Decision”
For those awaiting decisions, if past years are prologue, high stats (top 1 percent in test scores and close to 4.0 unweighted) kids seem to be the ones admitted prior to February. It is a very small number of kids who get admission during this period, and most (not sure if all but may be all) are given scholarships. This year scholarships will be announced in February. The vast majority of admissions also happen in February.
My D21 submitted her application the night it opened in the common app, but it didn’t show as downloaded by the college until 8/18. She is in the top 1% of her class out of close to 850 students. Her GPA is 4.0 UW/ 5.39 W. She has 6 AP’s, 19 Honors, many extracurriculars and leadership positions, has worked a part-time job for a year and a half, Palmetto Girls State Delegate, etc. I think what is hurting her is possibly her SAT scores as they could have been better. Looking at the ones accepted already, I’m beginning to worry a little. I know it’s still early, but this is one of her top choices, so I pray it works out for her. Good luck to all of you who have students waiting and congratulations to all that have received decisions so far!
I know with other colleges, admissions vary by the department applying to as they each make their own decisions. Is that the same at Clemson? If so, that would explain the timing from everyone.
Congratulations!! My daughter is waiting to hear back & is hoping to get accepted into the Nursing program too! Her stats are almost identical to yours (but in CA all 5 of her SAT test dates have been canceled)… So, fingers crossed her 4.5 wGPA (3.97 uwGPA), course rigor, ECs & Top 5% status are enough. -Out of curiosity, was the Merit Scholarship enough to bring the tuition to an in-state level? We’ve been trying to see what the total cost might be with merit (since she’s OOS). Thanks for your help!!
@NurseNat S21 has similar GPA stats as well but took the SAT according to the SAT charts from the past he should only qualify for $9k per year. I’m not sure what will happen this year.
One of our state schools just reduced their awards by $4-5k per year.
Maybe no SAT submissions will play to her advantage.
Although we did not have a chance to do a formal tour we drove through a few years ago and loved the campus.
Best of luck!
thanks for all the responses! such a stressful time. Good luck to everyone
@NurseNat Two years ago when my oldest son applied and was accepted in November with a scholarship, he received 20k - the max at the time. He had a 35 ACT (one sitting) and was valedictorian. I think this would bring it in line with in state tuition or close. Last year it is my understanding that the max dropped down to 12k. With the budget shortfalls many colleges are seeing since Covid and refunds I don’t expect the max to raise. My middle child was admitted last week this go round with a scholarship, but those will not be issued til February.
@NurseNat, it said financial packages would be sent in February with the exact amount. I’m not sure if this is true but I saw something in the 2024 thread that said they also look at how much need-based you qualify for, and determine merit also based on that?? ie: less need-based=more merit. I’m not sure exactly if that’s true(could anyone confirm?), but I think most schools usually take into consideration more than just test scores/GPA for merit scholarships!! Good luck to your daughter!
@windycity556 merit is based on stats (previous years were SAT/ACT, rank and typically an uwgpa of at least 3.85). @NurseNat D20 received the highest auto merit last year, $12k/year, which was down from $20k/year for the class of 2023 (Yeah, that drop hurt) plus she received a couple smaller awards. With fees like Honors College and LLC, minus merit, it’s about $8-10k/year above in-state. The new NPC was usually updated in late January before award letters were sent; not sure what they’ll do this year. Good luck!
My son applied 10/30 and got his acceptance to the engineering program today! He is OOS, homeschooled, 1500 SAT, several dual enrollment classes (A’s in all), plus Eagle, 12+ years piano, and tons of community service. We were told he’s being awarded a scholarship but we won’t be receiving details on that until February.
My son received his acceptance today as well from OOS for engineering. Application was submitted 10/14. Same letter as others regarding scholarship details in February.
Have any in-state kids received acceptance? Just curious if they are sending letters to OOS students first. Good Luck to everyone! My hubby and I met at Clemson (both engineers) and we absolutely love the school.
Anyone admitted to the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Life Sciences? My son applied to the Natural Resource and Econimic Policy program. OOS.
@futuretigermom That is what I am wondering as well. I haven’t heard of anyone in-state getting accepted yet. My D applied for Engineering as her first choice and Chemistry as her second. Fingers crossed that our kids hear good news soon!
@proudmom2g1b My son applied to Engineering first and Biology second.
My recollection from two years ago was that the early acceptances were to OOS kids who got merit scholarships (seem to try to equalize tuition for out of state students). Based on this board, that seems to be what is happening as well this year.
@futuretigermom at least a few in state kids have. If you put “Clemson acceptance” or “tiger town bound” into a search on Facebook you can see all public posts of people sharing acceptances. None that I know personally though. We’re in state and I also went to Clemson
Would be interested in seeing if anyone has gotten an acceptance who didn’t submit a test score. It’s a small sample size, but everyone on here who has gotten in already seems to have submitted a strong test score. I wonder if the “holistic review” required beyond GPA/ACT/SAT means test-optional applicants are going to take longer for a decision?
@UTSquared wondering the same thing. My OOS son seems to have checked the other boxes but no test score to submit and has not heard anything.
