Clemson University

I am currently a junior and Clemson is my dream school. I visited there last summer and fell in love. So I was wondering–

How much in scholarship money am I likely to receive if I apply to Clemson University with these current stats:
Class Rank: 1 of 72
GPA: 4.3 - all of my core classes have been Honors/AP and I’ve gotten all A’s
ACT: 33
I’m a female and I live OOS

@BrownParent Thank you for that, however I have seen it before. I am hoping to find other people who had similar stats to me to find out how much they were offered. The $7,500-$15,000 range is very broad and I can only make going to Clemson a possibility if I get sufficient money :-<

Clemson has a HIGH OOS cost to begin with so it’s hard for them to get costs down.

Do you know how much your parents will spend each year?

I will tell you this…if you loved Clemson, you will likely also love Alabama. Similar look and feel. However, Alabama is less rural, so more things to do in the area.

Last fall, a mom contacted me because her D loved Clemson, but the merit wouldn’t be enough. I told them to visit Bama. They visited in Bama, and Bama immediately moved into #1 spot for the D.

with your stats, you’d get free tuition at Bama.

@kennaaelysee Likely higher end of the range, if not 15k. I was ~15%(no rank), 34 ACT, 3.5UW GPA and got $7500.

Schools like Clemson care more about test scores than rank and GPA for merit.

@mom2collegekids I’m not 100% sure how much my parents are willing to spend, but I can tell you that my dad is not looking to pay the ~$45,000 a year haha. I will apply for local scholarships and financial aid as well, but I know he doesn’t want me having a ton of student loans. Sadly Bama doesn’t offer the major I am interested in (Architecture)… I have heard of people getting an out of state price waiver… Do you know anything about that??

You need to ask your dad how much he’ll pay.

Clemson has a HIGH instate rate, which is more than what many parents will pay…so even with a waiver, it may not be affordable.

Keep in mind that those outside scholarships are only for ONE year…frosh year…so they won’t help pay for four years of college.

@mom2collegekids I just talked to my dad and he said that he will find the money he needs to if I am dead set on Clemson. (he’s a great dad!) I plan on applying to as many scholarships around here as possible and hope to get the max from Clemson. I’ll definitely find some back-up schools though just in case things don’t work out.

A couple of schools similar to Clemson with architecture that would give big merit for your stats:

Louisiana Tech & Mississippi State

Also I would look at Auburn - probably better merit there than Clemson and they are a lot alike.

Auburn has a great Architecture school but its a 5 year program and you have to be admitted into that program separately from the general university, if I recall correctly. It’s a tough program - long, long days/nights in the architecture building (my engineering son said engineering students have nothing to complain about after rooming with an architecture student for a semester).

Is Clemson also a 5 year program? (arent’ many?)

If these programs are 5 year programs, then pay attention to the scholarship details…many are only for 4 years.
