Ds has applied to both Clemson and South Carolina. He’s been accepted to USC and received a minimum scholarship which will essentially waive out-of-state tuition plus defray some of the in-state tuition. The best I can tell, Clemson does not award comparable scholarships. The max $15,000 out-of-state scholarship would not cover out-of-state tuition, correct? USC appears to be a more financially viable option. ~ Sad Clemson Alum (just kidding…we were very impressed with both schools!)
I think that is true. My D applied to both and got considerably more merit aid at USC.
@scmom12 Did your D end up choosing USC?
My son got accepted to Alabama and University of South Carolina already and both offered 19,000 scholarship. However, we are holding out for Clemson as it is his #1 choice. He will be lucky if he gets the $10,000 for Clemson. Yes, we are out of state too.
what are your sons stats?
@mweb136 Good luck to your son! I loved my time at Clemson!
@Captain229 She did pick USC Honors with top scholar scholarship and guaranteed money for NMF (with free computer). TBH we are a Gamecock family so leaning that way anyway but she applied to Clemson since she was interested in physics or engineering. But just based on stats/scores alone much better money at USC even if she hadn’t gotten the top scholar money from USC.
@scmom12 That’s fantastic! The Top Scholars program looks amazing…what an honor! Did she go with engineering?
thank you so much @Captain229. @pkgny2022 my son got a 1420 SAT, 4.3 GPA, but unfortunately top 20% at very competitive high school. So, since he was not top 10 he is not entitled to higher merit at Clemson. However, he has 50 Dual College Credits/AP credits and they said they would take every class if accepted so that will help us with the out of state tuition.
@Captain229 Actually she ended up double majoring in math and religion although she started in physics - she likes the theoretical.
