Clemson versus Pitt: nursing

Hello! I have been accepted into my top two schools, Pitt and Clemson, for nursing and I love them both so I was hoping to get some opinions on the two schools. Just for some background, I am from NJ and I want a school with school spirit. Pitt accepted me into their nursing school, but I did not get any scholarship money or get into their honors college. Clemson did give me a scholarship and (I think?) I applied to the honors college, but I’m not sure if they have released that information yet. I appreciate any input on the schools in general and information on the nursing program specifically. Thanks!!

Being from Pittsburgh I can tell you that Pitt is a great nursing school and is literally next door to a world class hospital system UPMC . I understand Clemson’s is very good as well, however I believe the clinical work is done in Greenville.

To me the biggest differences are the type of college setting you want. Pitt is an urban campus in a big city with all the pluses and minuses that come with that. Clemson is a more typical college campus (a very pretty one at that) in a small town in rural SC. That has pluses and minuses as well.

And of course Clemson won the natty 2 of the last 3 years…that isn’t happening at Pitt. The atmosphere at football games is about 5 times better at Clemson than Pitt.

Congratulations on getting into two great schools and great programs. You can’t do wrong at either which ever you decide. Good luck.

@burghdad Thank you very much!

Is Pitt direct admit to nursing? If so, And if you love them equally, I’d pick the best price. My daughter is admitted to Clemson’s nursing program as well. She is sold on Clemson being the happiest place on earth, but I honestly think their nursing program - without an adjacent hospital, is a drawback. I think that’s why they are direct admit- to keep the competitiveness high. Direct admit is worth the stress of not knowing if you’ll be high enough to make it into the upper division of other programs. My daughter is accepted at Chapel Hill and will likely choose Clemson because of the direct admit and “happy factor.”

@NcAb11 yes, Pitt is direct admit as well

Both are great programs. It will depend on your budget and what you want out of a campus experience.

Clemson
-direct admit
-great school spirit
-contained campus in small town
-clinicals are off site in another town
-how much $$ per year and what is your budget?

Pitt
-direct admit
-decent school spirit but nothing like Clemson
-mostly contained campus in urban location
-hospitals right on campus
-excellent public transportation
-a city to explore when you are not at clinicals or studying
-how much $$ per year and what is your budget?

Check what the grade and GPA requirements are to remain in the program at each school.

@egped82 Congratulations in your acceptances. I was wondering if you would share your stats. My daughter, a junior at a NJ high school, is considering applying to these schools.

@Lrhr1023 Thank you very much!
