Haha!

But I have a serious question for you guys:

Should I take the SAT or ACT again? Or should I take both?

May SAT: (first time taking it)
CR: 600
M: 440
W: 540
Total: 1580

June ACT: (first time)
English: 26
Math: 19
Reading: 28
Science: 21
Composite: 24

According to the SAT/ACT conversion charts, my ACT score converted to a "1680 SAT score." That is 100 points better than my SAT score.

I live in Washington and I'm applying to Washington State University, University of Washington (Seattle), and University of Oregon next year -- all state schools.

Should I just take one test to study during the summer and focus on that test's strategies or should I take both again? Please keep in mind that the ACT and SAT test dates are less than one month apart (Sept.-Oct.). Also, I heard that most colleges look at just the composite ACT score and not all of the sub scores, but for the SAT colleges look at mostly the CR/M sections. If this is true, should I take the ACT test again and just try to hammer the English/Reading to get my composite score up since I really struggle with math concepts??

Thanks for your advice!

*Side note:
WSU priority app due: Jan. 31st
UW priority app due: Nov. 1st
UO ED app due: Oct. 1st (before SAT test date...)

Yes, I would retake the SAT and try to get the math and writing up. Your CR score is okay, but your math score is below average for the U-Dub, and in a giant university, SAT scores matter quite a bit. ACT score is kind of low as well--why don't you prepare one test at a time. For example prepare for the SAT retake for a month or two (math is easiest to improve, for most people) and take a practice test for SAT and see how you do, and then think about the ACT. Also, the math for the ACT is much harder than the math on the SAT, so I recommend you work on SAT first.

Yeah, regardless of what test or tests I take, I'm going to study for the math section hardcore.

But don't colleges like UW and WSU look at only your CR/M sections of the SAT, and don't really care about your total score with the writing??

Isn't it vise versa for the ACT? Like they only really look at your COMPOSITE ACT score and not the English, Math, Reading, or Science sections separately.....or is that just a myth?

If that's the case, maybe I should just study for the ACT in the summer and get a better OVERALL score, since the colleges don't look specifically at what you got for the Math section.

Help me out!

^ Some colleges see it as an equal, as a lesser score, or with no weight at all. You have to check the schools policies.

Also, for the ACT, they only want the best Composite score, which means no superscore, but they will see then seperately.

Hope that helped a little...:)

Thanks. That helps.

So I have one vote for SAT.

Any others??

Yeah, and a tip: figure out the SAT math first before you tackle the ACT math, because I think that the SAT math is simpler, and if you have trouble with that, you're going to have a very tough time with the ACT. I don't know how much U-dub and WSU care about the writing section. My guess is not as much as they care about math and reading, but that's just a guess. Like rmadden15 said, you should try to find the answer on the schools's websites. Best of luck to you!
