Is the Regal College Avenue 16 cinema on West 3091 Van Roy Road the closest cinema to LU (I did a google search)?

Does anyone know if there is bus service to that place? google says it is a 8 min car ride but a 56 min walk (a new beta feature of google) from LU

Your daughter probably won’t have all that much time for off campus films when classes are in session. (There is a campus film series, and there will be a nice theatre in the new campus center—I’ve been told.)

Regal Cinema is on a bus route, but getting there by bus would involve a pretty heavy time investment—especially, I suspect, once the route in re-drawn in light of the fact that the College Avenue Bridge is coming down shortly and won’t be replaced for 17 months thereafter. (Google’s pedometer probably doesn’t know about that.)

Hollywood Cinema, on the west end of town, will probably be more accessible—but that bus ride is pretty long as well.

Here is a link to the valley transit schedule map:

http://www.appleton.org/departments/transit/1maps/SYSTEMMAP.pdf

Hollywood Cinema is south-west of the red 15-circle on the left side. Regal Cinema is 3-4 inches to right of the red 11-circle on the right side.

Some students have cars, and have been known to take friends to films—usually blockbusters that everyone “must” see.

Your daughter should find more than enough to do on campus during the free time she has. She is likely to be very busy.

Thanks for the transit map and the reply. Is the following statement from the Princeton Review's review on LU, cited in another post*, a ground of your saying there is not much free time to see an off campus movie?

In its profile of the college, The Princeton Review defined the Lawrence experience as "intense academics, extreme involvement in extracurricular activities and a near-obsession with music."

The implied bigger question is: how intense is it at LU?

No. In fact, I don't recall ever seeing Lawrence on a "students never stop studying" list. I wouldn't say it's intense, but it's also not for slackers--good students need to be serious about their work. In addition, there is a great deal to do on campus, and, those two things together make it so that one doesn't, and doesn't want, to go far off campus for extended periods of time. It's a small place, but it's pretty busy. The students tend to work hard and have a variety of ways to have fun once the work is over.

thanks for the clarification on what PR might have meant when it said academics were intense.

Also, thanks for telling us about the western end movie option. Our family is planning to come up to LU this w/e to visit, and we trying to find movie possibilities - especially for the others who are not Lu students, yet.
