Are there any theatres near stanford that play new movies?

yes (biking distance, just like anything else)

Yeah, but most people end up driving to the ones that are a few miles a way.

^driving is the most common way. I went all the time last year (ok maybe not all the time but I saw my fair share). I drove to all of them (and actually took a cab once). I dont know if you can bike to any thu...

Yes, you can bike to the theater on El Camino (about 2 blocks south) as well as the Stanford on University (old-style theater).

I love the Stanford Theater on University Ave; it is not affiliated to Stanford. It plays old movies like Casablanca and Wizard of Oz. In February, it has a film noir series. Amazing for people who love GOOD FILMS.

Stanford also has Flicks every Sunday in Mem aud--I've only been twice, but I heard they occasionally show good films. You also have a number of independent movie directors that come onto campus and show their films. Cubberly can come pretty close to a movie theater.

Yes, and this is free http://flicks.stanford.edu . They show movies that were released a few months back, I think. For example, they've shown movies like Pirates of the Caribbean, Little Miss Sunshine, and The Matrix.
