What's the best and easiest-to-get-to place near UNC that shows current movies? I know of southpoint mall, but it seems to me that there isn't a bus that runs there later than 8 pm, and I don't have a car. Am i wrong about this? Once the movie is over, I would need to find a bus that takes me back to the union at night. I'd appreciate any help with this.

I’ve been trying to find out the same thing. While The Varsity is cool, it can get old after awhile.

The Lumina movie theatre along with a bunch of restaurants is located in Southern Village, which is a straight shot south of campus on 15-501 (what Pittsboro St turns into) Maybe five miles? Google it and you can visit the website and see a map. The web site lists the current and upcoming (first run) movies, plus there’s a phone number. I bet there are busses that run because there is a lot of housing there. The theatre staff might be able to tell you what busses run from campus. It’s in their interest after all to get you there. Saw, too, that shows are $6.50 with college id. Enjoy the show!

The Lumina, Southpoint Mall Cinema (the best!) and maybe Timberline

The NS and V buses both go to Southern Village. They’re very handy.

I think the bus to Southpoint runs until 11 pm? Or at least, I know I’ve taken it after 8 pm.
