for those of you in college...what do you wear?

are there things that you didnt bring nearly enough of, or things that you brought and never wore?

do you wear sweats or jeans or dresses/nicer stuff most? do you ever wear sweats/shirts, etc. from your high school? are you in your pjs a lot of the time or do you actually get dressed fully every day?

do you have any advice about buying and packing clothes for college?

Usually tshirts and jeans. Most of my tshirts had my college on them, or some pro sports team. I had to buy some generic polo shirts for my summer internship, so I'll mix those in next year. I only wore stuff from my highschool to the gym. I got dressed every day (sleeping in my boxers meant going to class in my pjs would not be a good idea.)

I'd advise you bring LOTS of socks and underwear. Way more than you think you need. You can re-wear jeans, even shirts to a certain extent (if you wear undershirts) and you've usually got a gym shirt or something you can wear in an emergency, but socks and underwear are disgusting to rewear. I'm a slob and even I won't do it. Make sure you bring at least one set of "nice" clothes (dress pants, button shirt and tie for guys, nice dresses or something for girls) for job interviews or whatever.

What you should bring depends on two things - the weather at your school and what you plan on doing. If you're a partier, bring some clothes you can wear to go out. If you are living in residence or are joining a Greek organization, you'll need dressy clothes for formals. Weather is obvious.

I usually just dress casually - jeans and a t-shirt or maybe a skirt/dress if the weather is nice. The only times I wore sweats to class were when I slept too late and had to run to my AM lectures to get there on time. If you're living in residence, bring some sweatpants to lounge around in when you're just hanging out with floormates. I wouldn't wear sweats to class on a regular basis, especially if you need to talk to your profs - they'll probably respect you more if you look cleaned up and aren't wearing pjs. Just bring some nice casual stuff to wear around campus, and don't worry about it too much.

t shirts, tank tops, jeans, shorts, capris, jean skirts. Girls wear soffe shorts and those VS Pink sweatpant capris alot. No one really wears PJs out, like actual PJs with moons or whatever, but people do wear sweatpants/lounge pants fairly often. Sometimes girls wear sundresses or light skirts in the late spring and summer. (I'm not really a dress-during-the-day person, I only wear dresses if I go out dancing or something)

And yes, you're allowed to wear high school shirts, EVERYONE does it. People makes fun of the people that dress like they're going to a club when they come to class at 9 in the morning perfectly coifed. Pretty much everyone here lives in flip flops unless it's straight up winter time.

guys wear cargo shorts or jeans, and polos or t-shirts. sometimes guys wear athletic shorts, but mostly if they're going to work out or something. there's alot of baseball caps and visors.

For me, its cargo shorts or jean shorts in the summer, and jeans in the winter.

Most of the girls wear jeans and sweatpants in the winter, and jeans, shorts or skirts when the weather gets nicer. Fancier clothes like dresses are usually out.

I wouldn't wear any high school logo apparel. It's better to support your new school!

Myself and most of the student body at my school wear a lot of comfy, easy to wash, and appropriate for the weather clothes. Tons of jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts. Definitely bring a ton of basics that are easy to take care of--none of that has to be dry cleaned or hung dry stuff, as you won't want to take the time. There probably won't be a need for anything dressy at all unless you're in a frat/sorority, so maybe just one or two "nice" outfits for if something comes up.

It is not unusual for people to wear clothes that look like they just rolled out of bed while they are in college. (sweatpants, flip flips, etc)

dress in whatever is comfortable on you...if you want to go to class dressed up like you are going to a club or simply wear pajamas JUST DO IT. As long as you are not emitting foul odors, you are fine and no one will care. Just don't wear nice clothes to labs unless you want to risk ruining them.

You can wear high school apparel; I wore my class shirt all the time. Personally I think going to class in your PJs says class is not a priority to you and you don't deem it worthy of getting you there in decent clothing. It says that partying and sleeping until the last possible minute was probably (but not always) more important than making a good impression on professors and showing peers that you do want to be there and learning. But that's just my thinking. You can get away with casual dress, t-shirt and jeans 95% of the time. You may wear a nicer shirt for going to a club, or more formal wear for a special school event.

But.. but..but that is pretty much what I'm thinking every morning. (mostly sleeping til the last possible minute) LOL seriously, I don't think anybody gives a rats ass about what you wear to class. Alot of my lectures are huge and professors dun know who I am. Long as my brains (semi)awake and listening, i dun really care what I'm wearing (esp when essays are due the next morning... hoodies and shorts!)

don't worry about them - go to Vassar, which is clothes-optional (supposedly!)

in seriousness - I have no fashion sense so I just wear simple stuff. khakis or khaki shorts (depending on the weather), and a t-shirt (the only choices are... color? does it have a collar?). I think it makes me look silly wearing the same type of clothes every day (and I don't wear jeans for example)... but whatever.

I don't go to class in my pajamas, but that probably has something to do with the fact that I sleep naked. Plenty of people show up to morning lectures in pajama pants or sweats... I wouldn't do it in an upper division class or in the afternoon, but for big classes it doesn't matter.

I'm pretty casual, as are most of my friends. T-shirts, beaters, tank tops, cargo pants or shorts, hoodie, done. Tops in one drawer, bottoms in another--one from column A, one from column B, and I'm set (I just have to be careful my t-shirt doesn't say anything office-inappropriate if I'm working that day).

I've always thought people who came to morning classes in heels with their hair straightened looked pretty sad... who in their right mind doesn't have anything better to do? I don't look like a slob or anything, but I go to class to go to class. Which didn't stop me from dating someone I met in chem lecture, but that's not why I'm there :)

I am one refuses to roll out of bed ten minutes before class, throw on sweatpants, and go. I take about an hour to get ready. I can't remember a day since like middle school that I didn't shower, blow dry my hair, do my makeup, iron my clothes, etc. Yes, I even iron my jeans eventhough the laundry service does it before I do. I rarely wear Tshirts but do sometimes wear nice sweatshirts. Normally it's a button up shirt with a cardigan or a nice knit shirt. Nice jeans or pants... never sports shorts of any kind. If it's a miserable winter day I might wear a matched lounge wear type set but that's rare. I think it's kind of disrespectful to the professors if you've literally just rolled out of bed.

... but seriously... no on really cares what you wear. As long as you're clean and not smelling, no one will comment. I do think it's funny when girls wear really high heels to class. That's where I draw the line. You'll never find me wearing uncomfortable shoes to class.

Your most likely to meet the one you'll marry in college than anywhere else so dress to impress but also be comfortable because you move around and are usually pretty active.

I think it is disrespectful to walk into a class, even if it is early in the morning. You won't see a professor wearing pjs to class - and professors actually have to travel to the univeristy each morning for class, whereas students live right on campus and if a professor can make time to get dressed every morning, so should his/her students.

I think most people fall somewhere in between the two extremes. I generally wear a t-shirt/hoodie/sweater and jeans to class. If I have to give a presentation I'll wear a button down shirt instead. Fashion isn't my biggest priority, comng to class prepared is.

Though I've read that you should always try to change out of your pajamas before coming to class so that you mentally distinguish between sleep/study (similar to not studying on your dorm bed). And I also think I'm personally less likely to go back to my room and nap between classes if I'm wearing actual clothes.

I generally wear a t-shirt and shorts/cargo pants (depending on the weather) to class. Even though I usually roll out of bed 15 minutes before class starts, I look OK. It doesn't take THAT long to switch pants.
