Clothing question.

Hi. I'll be a freshman in Goddard next year and i'm really afraid I'm brining to much clothing (as in I won't have enough space). I'm planing on brining enough clothes for 3 weeks with three jackets (one rain one snow one cold one for mild weather) and about 5-6 pairs of shoes. Any advice anyone can offer (especially about the space in Goddard) and/or space saving tips would be amazingly helpful. Thanks so much!

If you’re planning on going home during Thanksgiving break, you can switch from warm weather clothing to cold at that time. Those space saver bags can be very useful for sweaters and coats.

i lived in goddard last year (loved it!). don’t worry about space. everyone (everywhere) gets a closet, dresser and obviously underbed space. if you need more room get those underbed storage thingies and bed risers. i’d also say it’s a good idea to get one of those shoe-hanging pocket things that hang on your closet doors.

concerning goddard the space issue is definitely just luck. i had a single that was about the same size as my friends’ double. my other friend and her roommate had such a big room we wondered if it was possibly a room equipped for those with disability (it was a lot wider). her room was about the same size as one of the triples down the hall. if you don’t mind, do you know what number room your’s is (ex. _14A or _04B)?

One word: layers.

(But seriously, in terms of space, you’ll be fine. Just learn how to fold/iron clothes.)

By the way when you say a dresser you mean a walk in closet or just a small communal dresser?

Everyone gets their own dresser, as in, a separate set of drawers.

marabigo- i had a friend who lived in 604 (the rooms are generally the same on each floor) who had a room facing west 4th and the welcome center. i can’t remember if 605 is east or west of that. if it’s the double, then it’s a decent sized typical dorm layout (beds parallel across the room, each get a window) also overlooking west 4th. if you’re in the suite, then the corner room is AMAZING (four windows on two sides). if it’s the other room in the suite it looks almost exactly like the picture of the goddard room on the nyu housing website.

each person has an entire closet (not walk in but more than enough to fit one or two of those hanging cube things and plenty of hangers) and a larger dresser (i think it’s four or five drawers and then a larger drawer on bottom).

csh

I’m assigned to a quad - Do you know anything about that?
thanks!

Quad?! In Goddard?! Ouch. I’m in a triple with two rooms, and I thought my situation was bad.

Ummm. Thinking of the 609 quad, the rooms were a little small but not unmanageable (in my friend’s room his dresser was in the closet) and it was large enough to fit a decent sized pong table (not that that is much of a help…lol). i will say the windows faced inwards and the rooms were kind of dark. also the rooms in that suite are longer and narrower than some of the other rooms in the hall.

that quad is around the corner from the elevators and are farthest from the stairs but i will say that noise was NEVER a problem considering it was farthest down the hall away from the RA.

Hey. I’ll be in…
