OK, I admit that I am in catch-up mode here, and this probably has been discussed (like my last post) but I am wondering how much to bring (starting freshman). I did get the lists that some kind posters provided giving suggestions of what to bring/not to bring, but how about clothes? I think we do not have any storage space allocated at UR, correct? So, assuming that everything has to fit in the room, that leaves a closet and dresser (is that right)? Does each roommate get a closet and dresser of his/her own? Considering the standard large-ish duffle or suitcase, what is reasonable vs. excessive? I am not including things like bedding, lamps, etc in this question, just asking about clothing. Thanks.

Which dorm are you in? Quad dorm rooms are positively spacious! Sue B rooms are not as big, but are still decent sized.

*Each * student in each room has a wardrobe (stand alone closet) with a big drawer at the bottom, plus a 3 drawer dresser and a desk with drawers. Plenty of room for most individuals.

There is not additional storage space in the dorm basement for bulky stuff like luggage or footlockers. Anything you bring must stay in your room. D stores her rolling duffle and suitcase(s) on the top of the wardrobe.

Since we live far from UR and had to fly there, D packed 1 rolling duffle, 1 backpack (computer, plus other stuff), 1 carry-on bag (musical instrument) and 1 largish suitcase. The luggage contained her clothes, shoes, 2 winter coats, snow boots, towels, sheets (2 sets), personal stuff (like mirror, photos, hairbrush, etc) comforter cover, and a down pillow.

She mailed her printer and box of assorted stuff (cables, desk lamp, office supplies, textbooks) to herself and picked it up at move in. She bought pillows, comforter, mattress topper and personal grooming supplies locally during/after move in. (Walmart, Target)

Remember everything you bring to campus has to be moved out at the end of the school year.

And how much to bring isn’t a single decision.

It’s highly individual and very changeable. If you need something–you can always go shopping (locally or on the internet) or have it mailed from home. If you have too much stuff, you can always send it home–by mail, when the 'rents come to visit or in your luggage during holidays.

USPS offers a “all you can stuff in one box” priority mail flat rate–very convenient.

There’s a post office in Todd Union as well as a shipping store for UPS and FedEx.

The [facebook page for SueB](<a href=“Facebook Public Group | Facebook”>Facebook Public Group | Facebook) has videos that show different room arrangements with kids explaining why.

yay - thanks for the link to the facebook page! My son will love looking at the videos of the double rooms (once he drags out of bed…)
