Instead of playing Divsion III baseball at a small school, I am planning on going to a bigger school with D1 athletics and tying to play club baseball and basketball. I was just wondering how competitive club sports are, as I am a competitive person and I think it’d be great if club sports brought on a good level of competition. Obviously they are going to be much less competitive than varsity athletics, but a lot of schools have said their club teams travel and play in tournaments. Thanks
I think that entirely depends on the school and the sport. I go to a D3 school and never had any aspiration to varsity sports but our fencing club (no varsity team for that, sadly) is fairly competitive compared to other club teams in the Northeast. We have a couple competitions a year that we travel for. I’m not sure whether the situation would be different at a D1 school since there is also a huge varsity presence. It may be that a lot of the club team is made up of people who just barely didn’t make varsity, which would still be an awesome team. Another option you can look into is intramurals, which most schools have for basketball. It’s less pressure than a traveling team but it’s still competitive.
Obviously it depends on the school, but if you really are good enough to play D3, I would guess you’d be good enough to play club at a D1. Most club sports are competitive
They are competitive at most D1s. If it’s me, I wouldn’t play two sports as that will take up time you could devote to a greater diversity of ECs; and of course to your academics.
