How does club team (sports) works in college?
Do they have regular practice?
How good do you have to be?
Who runs the club?

It really depends on the school, but some club teams are run by the students, while others have a coach/advisor. From what I've read (I am interested in ice hockey and cross country/track), practices are held either bi or tri weekly with games on the weekends. It doesn't sound too indepth and they usually make a point of saying that while there is a commitment involved, if you had a lab you couldn't miss or a paper due, you could miss something and not be kicked off the team like you would if you played on varsity. For more specific info, you might want to look at the actual school you are interested in and contact whoever's email they have listen on the website.

It definitely depends on the actual club team and school and sport. For example, I really want to sail in college, and most teams are club teams, yet they compete against schools that have varsity teams. I knew someone on the club team at Columbia and it was pretty intense, but when my sister joined the club at Vassar they did nothing all year. Generally though, I agree with the fact that club teams are more relaxed. I think sometimes it might have to do with funding as well- the person I know who was at Columbia mentioned something about raising money to turn into a varsity team.

Some club teams are very laid back and not that competitive - but others........... they can be pretty crazy and very competitive and intense.

Where my kiddo goes to school they have quite a few club teams - they started up an ice hockey club team last year - very competitive - in a league that is in the south atlantic - they were awesome their first year too lol....... there is also very competitive field hockey and softball as well - some travel - but also alot of fun. Other clubs are rugby, surfing, baseball, ultimate frisbee, etc.......

They also have a ski/snoboard team - that is very active and competitive - pretty intense during end of jan/feb/march - no mountains close by them either - but they go to college nationals every year which alternate between east/west every year - well the boarders do - the skiers have not qualified cuz the competition is pretty intense.

The school finances some of the club team stuff - but they still have to raise funds for some things - and pay some expenses themselves as well. My gal loves the club atmosphere - usually a seasonal type of thing - vs varsity which BTW - the coach owns you in. Club sports are either student or school managed - depends on the club and how it is set up. Some teams have official coaches - some don't - they all vary. It is a great way tho to continue - or even learn a new - sport and be active - make great friends - and compete as well.
