Clubs in High School

Hey everybody,

I made an account just to ask a question about a certain club at my high school. I am sure most people here have heard of the card game Magic: The Gathering. There is a magic the gathering club at my high school and I am seriously thinking about joining it. How would this look on a college application? I consider myself a fairly competitive student and am in six advanced placement classes this year (junior year). Would it look good? Would it not? Thanks for looking.

For a club where you play games, joining for the sake of college applications seems a little… xD

Join it if you enjoy the game. You can put it on college applications, but seeing that you’re taking a fair amount of APs, it probably won’t do more than add a little “me” to the application - it won’t really raise your appeal. But make sure to take into account that depending on the admissions officer, they may interpret the activity in different ways. I would say, if you have extra space in your activities section (i.e. less than 9 activities), it’d be a nice “me” factor, but make sure it doesn’t come off as filler material.

But actually, don’t join a game club for the sake of putting it on your college application if you’re a fairly competitive student - join it to play and have fun and fool around and yeah…

Thanks this is the answer I was looking for.
