[Clueless Freshmen] Is it worth it retaking a SAT II?

I took the Biology SAT II as a Freshmen, and given the pompous ass I am I choose the Molecular version!

I got a 690 :(

I got a B in the Class too (Pre-IB Biology) - but the grade really improved percentage wise (from 80.1% first quarter to 89.4 3rd and 4th quarters).

I'm a potential Engineering Major and since some colleges only take Chemistry and Physics, is it worth is even retaking that?

I don't know I scored somewhere in that region during the practice tests too, but I used Barrons and Kaplan (instead of something like CliffsNotes and Princeton Review - I checked Princeton Review out of the library just a day before and skimmed it for about 2 hours!)

Help!!!!

Oh and I'm looking into Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (or even Biological). I'm intending to work in the Biopharmaceutical Industry, hence the incredible meltdown!!!

Barrons, McGraw Hill and PR are the best (arranged in order of detail).

As you are a rising sophomore, you still have alot of time to make up for that and re-take it. I would say that anything below a 700 isn't going to make you competitive but a 750+ actually starts getting the tests working for you on applications. Remember that 85th percentile is around a 750.

If you are going down the Biomed route...you are really going to want a strong number at least around 750 -alot of programs are very competitive and high scores in the sciences/maths are paramount. Some would go as far as saying that a 770-800 is the best place to be in.

No I'm not going into Biomed (Biomed and Biopharm are pretty different). I'm not taking Biology anymore, should I still retake it?

Although colleges say that they don't look at percentiles a few sometimes do, but percentiles are more useful at gauging your position/competitive level. A 650 is 51st percentile, 730 is 83rd percentile. Anything to do with Bio/Med/Engineering/Pharm is going to be fairly competitive depending on the colleges you are looking at.

Your SAT II was 'good' but seeing as though your career will be heavily focused on the sciences, I would either retake it or aim high in another like chem (harder to do).

Good Luck!

That's what I'm currently thinking about. I'll still be taking Chemistry and Physics. College usually require only one is Sciences, so I don't know if I should just let it go and aim for a high score in Chemistry and Physics or just retake this!

Thanks.

On a sidenote, for anyone else reading this, I don't recommend taking SAT tests as a freshmen, except with the language ones. If you're extremely fluent in a certain language, you'll most likely do well on the exam (I took French w/ Listening as a freshman and got a 760.. In retrospect, I would have done better if I had waited, but I think my score is good enough). However, with the sciences/maths, it's best to wait until you have a very solid background. Good luck!
