I know that, as a Division III school, CMC (as a part of CMS) isn't allowed to officially recruit athletes. However, I have heard that there are a lot of student-athletes at the school and that about 30% of the students that are attend CMC play varsity sports.
I'm a good but not great runner, but I have very strong scores/GPA/ECs. I've been talking to the XC coach for a while and I was just wondering...

Does being in contact with a CMS coach help you get admitted to CMC?

When I visited CMC, I met some students who told me that a few athletes did benefit from contacting coaches. Those students had relatively low GPA and scores. However, CMC strongly emphasis on leadership. So if your ECs are leadership related, then you should be fine. It can’t hurt to contact the coach. Good luck!!

I’m currently being recruited by CMC and I applied ED and am awaiting the results. The coach explained it to me that they could advocate for you, but the coach was not very specific at the amount of pull they had. If the coach endorses your app then it will definitely help you get admitted, especially if everything else is good.

I’m also an xc runner (15:58 5k in xc) in contact with Coach Goldhammer. I have a 3.8 unweighted GPA, 4.15 weighted, ranked in top 14% in a very competitive high school, and 2150 SAT scores, which I think makes admission to CMC a stretch. All Coach Goldhammer he has told me is that he can write to the admissions office, but I’m not sure how much pull he has. I do know that he has more pull for early decision applicants. It seems like he has a lot of recruits this year! Hopefully he’ll have more pull in the admissions process because the xc team did so well this year. Also, as I heard a rumor that some athletes are receiving their admissions results early. Does anyone know if there is any truth to that?

I haven’t heard anything about that. But your times make you a much more coveted recruit than me (16:44 5k, but got sick near the end of the season) so you probably know more than I do. Where did you hear that?

The ED I applicants get notified by December 15th, so that makes sense.
If you’re applying RD, that might explain why you don’t know when you’ll be notified.

I don’t think they gave out decisions, unless my coach is holding back from me. There was a meeting tonight and they gave feedback on the applicants.

Was that meeting at CMC for all prospective athletes, or what?
I had no idea it was happening. But then again, I live quite a ways away from the L.A. metro area.

The meeting was between coaches and admissions staff. I don’t know what sports had their meetings yesterday, but it sounds like more than just one. Your sport may have it later in the week.

Eh… Not really, but pretty much unofficially. Ive received a positive preread, and along with it I have heard feedback from the coach about their meeting with admissions several days ago. Although it isn’t as concrete as say a DI commitment, or receiving the acceptance letter, it is pretty damn close. No official letter until the set date though.

Thatrunnerkid: it is only for recruits that the coach feels they will have a tougher time getting into the school. I do not think there is very much coach help for regular decision athletes. Try edii if you want that help. And it isn’t a letter, more or less a phone call from the coach relaying what was said from admissions.
