Not a good look. And it appears to be fairly widespread.
happened to me too, i don’t think i’m committing anymore
Can they be legally held to the first email awarding the scholarship? I’ve always wondered because it’s in writing and if a student accepted because they relied on the award how is the school not bound?
Extremely unlikely. I see no legally binding contractual commitment/agreement in an offer letter.
Also extremely unlikely a student has committed and made a deposit in the few hours between the communications, which would make a stronger case.
Then again, IANAL and didn’t even sleep at a Holiday Inn last night.
A public relations nightmare!
Can they rescind admission without proper justification?
They aren’t rescinding, but rather not offering a scholarship. Major snafu!
I understand
My question is different
Colleges have made errors before in notifying applicants that they were admitted when they were actually not admitted.
Oh yikes!
There have been a few schools this year that have made similar errors:
Mom daughter got the same cold email. Welcome, but not so welcome… It’s not on sale anymore… It’s a horror story to see the prestigious CMC join the ranks of Oakland and Central Michigan.
Unbelievable… a mistake of this magnitude.
