CMU - Case - PSU Honors - Pitt Honors - W&J ???

Please help to sort this out! Son is intersted in engineering, music and german, a typical "left brain-right brain" person. He definitely plans to go to graduate school. We can probably scrape up $20K per year for expenses. With regard to both programs and price, would you choose CMU at $37K/year (will need loans) or Case/Pitt Honors/PSU Honors/W&J (small LAC) at around $20K per year. We will appreciate all input, both factual and anecdotal. Thanks!

I would choose Case in a second. Case is excellent in engineering, and CMU is truly not worth the extra money with case's excellent programs.

Any other opinions would be appreciated, either factual or anecdotal.

well my son was accepted at CMU, Case, Johns Hopkins, Michigan among others and he picked Case. He did receive a scholarship from Case but he was impressed in any event. Would he have gone there as opposed to the others without the scholarship? Can't answer that. Don't know what that says other than the research we conducted on all these places indicated that in terms of courses, job opportunities etc. all are about equal..so why pay more?

PSU! PSU! They have the best reputation for engineering out of the others (save CMU), and it is a nicer location than Case IMO.

By the way my son is also interested in both music and biomed engineering (plays cello) and Case has wonderful opportunities for both.

Don't know anything about PSU other than it's in a small town and large university.
